Australia qualified to play in the 2018 FIFA World Cup by winning the AFC Playoff against Honduras. They have appeared in 4 World Cup’s but have only made it out of the Round of 16 on one occasion, which happened to be in 2006. They first appeared in the FIFA World Cup in 1974 and will be looking to advance out of group play under new head coach, Bert Van Marwijk. Van Marwijk assumed the position after former head coach Ange Postecoglou resigned. Van Marwijk has a great deal of experience including leading Netherlands to the finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Australia has almost no hope in this round and will fall into last place.
Denmark qualified for the FIFA World Cup by winning their match over the Republic of Ireland in Europe’s Group E. Denmark will be making their 4th appearance in the FIFA World Cup and will be looking to surpass their best finish, which happened to be making it to the quarterfinals in 1998. Denmark is coached by Age Hareide, who took over for the long running coach Morten Olsen.
France is once again in the FIFA World Cup. They have appeared in every tournament since 1994 and made this year’s tournament by winning Group A in Europe. They have appeared in 14 FIFA World Cup’s and have appeared in the finals on two occasions. France won the FIFA World Cup in 1998 and will be looking to get back in the finals this year under head coach Didier Deschamps. Deschamps was on France’s World Cup winning team in 1998 as a player and will now look to get back as a head coach.
Peru ended their 36 year drought of FIFA World Cup appearances by finishing in 5th place in the South American qualifying and defeating New Zealand 2-0 in aggregate play in the intercontinental play off. They have appeared in 4 FIFA World Cup’s in the history of the program with their best finish coming in 1970 and 1978 when they made the quarterfinals. Spooky Express Winning Picks for World Cup Group C
France is a sure bet to win this group and one of our picks to make it to the Finals, with a powerful roster including Dmitri Payet, Hugo Lloris, Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba, Olivier Giroud, and Alexandre Lacazette. France has a habit of getting nice draws and this one is no different. The most interesting battle here will be between Denmark and Peru for second place. Most of the pressure will be on Denmark’s Christian Eriksen. If he performs well, the team will sneak into second place and make it to the knockout round. If he doesn’t, a young Peru team will take Denmark’s place and head to the next round. The Denmark-Peru battle may even be decided by goal differential.
