The 2018 FIFA World Cup is just a few months away and in this article, we will take a look at and preview the teams competing from Group E.  Group E teams will consist of Brazil, Costa Rica, Serbia and Switzerland.  Each of these teams will play in Group play from June 17 thru June 27.  The Winners of Group E will face the Runners-Up of Group F.  The Runners-Up in Group E will advance and take on the Winners of Group F.

Brazil

Brazil is ranked #2 in the current FIFA Standings.  They are one of the most experienced teams playing in this year’s FIFA World Cup appearing in 20 World Cups dating back to their first FIFA World Cup in 1930.  They have won the FIFA World Cup 5 times in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002. They are coached by Tite, who has taken over the Brazilian team in 2016 and won 9 consecutive games and were the first to punch their ticket to the FIFA World Cup, with the exception of Russia who were an automatic bid.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is appearing in their 4th FIFA World Cup.  They initially appeared in the FIFA World Cup back in 1990 and their best finish was in 2014, when they reached the quarterfinals.  They are led by head coach Oscar Ramirez.  Ramirez took over the team in 2015 after working as an assistant for Los Ticos in 2006 and again in 2015.  His head coaching experience is exclusive to his homeland at club level so it will be interesting to see how that carries over to the World Cup level.

Serbia

Serbia will be appearing in their 11th FIFA World Cup but if you are looking to research this team, you will need to use the names Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro.  They are now strictly referred to as Serbia and will be appearing for the first time since 2010.  They have finished as high as 4th in 1930 and 1962.   They are led by Coach Mladen Krstajic, who is a former player for both Serbia and Montenegro.  Krstajic has taken over for previous coach Slavoljub Muslin.  Krstajic was an assistant under Muslin and will be looking to make an immediate impact with his new head coaching position.

Switzerland

Switzerland enters the FIFA World Cup ranked 8th in the FIFA rankings.  They will be appearing in their 10th World Cup that dates all the way back to 1934.  Switzerland has made it to the quarterfinals on 3 occasions in 1934, 1938 and 1954.  They are led by Vladimir Petkovic, who will be making his FIFA World Cup debut.  He took over the Switzerland team in 2014 at the conclusion of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.  Since the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Petkovic has led the team to the last 16 in the UEFA Euro 2016 and a win over Northern Ireland in the Russia 2018 playoffs.

Spooky Express Winning Picks for World Cup Group E

Brazil will fly through the group stage and has no reason to fear anyone after winning all its games through qualifying. The main thing for Brazil is to hope that none of the team’s stars get injured in the process.

Costa Rica, which is my home away from home and the team I will be rooting for most of all without the USA involved, will once again surprise, will seek to transfer its CONCACAF form to a bigger stage and repeat its dream run from 2014, getting by Switzerland and Serbia to clinch a knockout-round berth.

Switzerland, whose roster includes Premier League stars Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka, will then edge out Serbia for third place.

1. Brazil

2. Costa Rica

3. Switzerland

4. Serbia
