Matchup at a Glance

Where: Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana
When: Sunday September 17th at 1:00 PM ET
Spread: Cardinals -7.5
Total: 44.5
Quick Pick: Under 44.5 for 2 units

Both the Cardinals and Colts will be without the best offensive players in this matchup. The Colts will be without Andrew Luck again this week while the Cardinals will be without all-purpose running back David Johnson who was injured in week 1 with a wrist injury that will require surgery. Tolzien is not a good quarterback while the Cardinals will have to rely more on the arm of aging quarterback Carson Palmer. The Cardinals and Colts have played each other 16 times with both teams winning 8 of the 16. The Cardinals won the most recent matchup in 2013 by a score of 44-11.

Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are 0-1 SU and 0-1 ATS after losing to the Detroit Lions in week 1.

The Arizona Cardinals were leading for most of their week 1 matchup against the Lions before ultimately losing and not covering the spread. The bigger loss in the matchup was the loss of David Johnson who suffered a wrist injury in the matchup against the Lions. The loss of David Johnson will force the Cardinals to rely more on the arm of Carson Palmer who is one of the oldest quarterbacks in the NFL and lacks the arm strength he once had. The Cardinals receiving core will be led by Larry Fitzgerald, John Brown and J.J. Nelson. They still have a solid defense and will be going up against the Colts and Scott Tolzien who is arguably one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL.

Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts are 0-1 SU and 0-1 ATS after losing to the Rams in week 1.

The Colts had abysmal showing this past week against the Rams and the showing showed why Andrew Luck is so important to the offense of the Colts. Tolzien stat wise is the worst starting quarterback in the NFL. Tolzien completed 9 of 18 passes for 128 yards and threw another 2 interceptions to add to the worst ratio of 2 touchdowns to 11 interceptions for his career. Brissett did come in for Tolzien and had a much better showing, so he should be their starter this week. The Colts will be without their starting center and Vontae Davis again this week, so I don’t expect much from the Colts this week.

Without their leaders on offense the Colts and Cardinals struggle on offense

The Cardinals will be without David Johnson due to a wrist injury. Last year Johnson led the NFL in total yards with over 2,100 total yards. The Colts continue to struggle on offense without Andrew Luck at quarterback and I don’t think much will change this week even if Brissett starts at quarterback. Both teams are lacking on offense which is why we are taking the under in this game.

Pick: Under 44.5 for 2 units
