Quick Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks -145
The New York Mets will take on the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday, June 17, 2018 in a National League matchup in the MLB. This game is being played at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona with the first pitch scheduled to take place at 4:10 PM ET.
This game is being played in hot weather in Arizona. The temps are expected to be in the mid 90’s but very little humidity. The one thing that should be monitored here is the winds, which are expected to be blowing directly out over the centerfielder at 10 mph. There is a retractable roof here at Chase Field but the winds still blow through the sides and at times, affect the game.
BetOnline has set the moneyline at Arizona Diamondbacks -145 and Minnesota Twins +135 with the total for the over under play at 9.5 runs. This is the second series of the 2018 season between the Mets and the Diamondbacks. In the first series, New York swept the Diamondbacks 3-0 by a combined score of 12-6 at home in the Big Apple. This series started out on Thursday, and the Diamondbacks took the first two games by the scores of 7-3 and 6-3.
Mets Are Not Far From Being Worst Team In MLB
What has happened to the New York Mets? They have gone from setting a record for the start to the season to setting record for least amount of runs scored in series of games! They are really bad right now and things only look to be getting worse as injuries are now beginning to play a role in them losing players. Jay Bruce was not in Friday Night’s game due to some lower back stiffness and Yoenis Cespedes had his return hampered with a quad injury and now has been placed back on the 10 day DL.
The Mets are in one of their worst losing streaks in many years. They have lost 13 out of 15 games overall and have fallen to fourth place in the National League East Division. The Miami Marlins have been long talked about since before the beginning of the season as being the worst team in the NL East but the Mets are trying to win that accolade as they are just three games up on the Marlins, who have actually played well over the past ten games going 6-4.
The Mets will send Zack Wheeler to the mound on Sunday for his 13th start of the year. Wheeler is 2-5 overall on the season with a 4.98 ERA. Wheeler has been pounded lately, giving up eight hits and six earned runs, in a loss to the Atlanta Braves. Wheeler hasn’t recorded a win in his last nine starts, since April 29 against the San Diego Padres.
Diamondbacks Pitching Has Been Dominant
The Arizona Diamondbacks have had an up and down season but for the most part, they have maintained their top spot in the division for the better part of the year. They have won eight out of their last ten games and are now back in first place in the National League West Division. Two weeks ago, they had given way to the Colorado Rockies but have come storming back since that point and now are two and a half games ahead of the LA Dodgers.
The Diamondbacks really aren’t hitting the ball great, only hitting .228 as a team for an average, but what they have lacked in batting average, they have made up with their pitching staff and their longball. They have the fourth best pitching staff in the majors with a 3.50 ERA. The Diamondbacks have hit the fifth most home runs in the National League.
Clay Buchholz will take the mound on Sunday for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Buchholz is 1-1 on the season in five starts. Buchholz has a 3.21 ERA in those five starts and has allowed 24 hits and ten earned runs over the 28 innings on the mound. Buchholz has failed to record a decision in his last two starts, giving up seven hits in each game and a combination of seven runs.
Diamondbacks Dominate Mets
The Mets are really struggling to score runs and are going up against a Diamondbacks team that has scored 75 runs in their last ten games. That is an average of over seven runs per game, which the Mets haven’t reached since May 28, which was 15 games ago. They will have a very hard time keeping pace with Arizona and I just don’t see it being possible with Wheeler on the mound. The play here is Arizona for 3 units.
Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks -145 for 3 units
