Quick Pick: Vikings -3 for 2 units
BetDSI has the Vikings favored by 3 over the Panthers. If the playoffs were today the Vikings would have the 1 seed in the NFC and the Panthers would have the 6 seed. The Vikings have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL and lost their starting quarterback and running back at the beginning of the season after Sam Bradford and Dalvin Cook both went down with injuries. The defense of the Vikings is one of the best in the NFL and the offense has been just as good.
The Panthers were one of the bottom teams last year, but that was mainly due to a few injuries as well as Cam Newton not being healthy for most of the year.
These two teams have played each other 13 times with the Vikings leading the series Vikings have won the last two including the matchup last season. Let’s take a closer look at these two teams and we’ll start with the underdog Panthers.
The Panthers are 8-4 SU and 7-5 ATS. The Panthers look like the team that went to the Super Bowl rather than the team last year. The defense has returned to form and Cam Newton is getting it done both running the ball as well as passing. Christian McCaffrey is one of the best pass catching running backs in the NFL and will likely be counted on a lot in this matchup as Xavier Rhodes will be covering Devin Funchess for this contest.
Greg Olsen is questionable for this game, but I don’t think he will play. The defense has returned to being one of the better defenses in the NFL as they rank 8th in points allowed per game, 3rd in rushing yards allowed per game and 6th in passing yards allowed per game.
The Vikings are 10-2 SU and 9-3 ATS. The Vikings look like a team that could win the Super Bowl as they have an above average offense and a defense that is one of the best. If they do represent the NFC in the Super Bowl it will be the first team in NFL to host a Super Bowl. They lost Sam Bradford early in the year, but Case Keenum has been just as efficient for them and has 2,703 yards on the season with 16 touchdowns.
The Vikings also lost their starting running back, Dalvin Cook, early in the season, but Latavius Murray and Jerick McKinnon have stepped up in his place. Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs give the Vikings one of the better WR duos in the NFL. The Vikings defense is the team’s biggest strengths as they rank 5th in points allowed per game, 2nd in rushing yards allowed per game and 11th in passing yards allowed per game.
Vikings prove to be too much for the Panthers
The Vikings have one of the most balanced and best overall teams in the NFL. It’s hard to run and pass against their defense. The passing offense is also one of the most efficient in the league as they rank 12th in passing yards per game. The Panthers are likely without Olsen and Rhodes will likely shadow Funchess in this matchup, so the Panthers will rely heavily on Cam and McCaffrey to move the ball and the Vikings have too good of a linebacking core to allow that to happen. Make sure to bet this match-up on BetDSI.
