When you talk about who the hottest team left in NCAA Tournament is, you might be surprised to hear that team is the Auburn Tigers. They have won 12 games straight and are riding a great amount of momentum heading into their Final Four matchup with Virginia.
With the Tigers, they have been winning games with their high-octane offense! They are averaging 80.2 points per game and are ranked 27th in the country on offense.
The Tigers got to the Final Four by initially winning the SEC Tournament, which gave them the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. While in the tournament, they took on a red-hot New Mexico State team in the first round and knocked them off by the score of 78-77.
They followed that up with beating a trio of College Basketball legendary programs in the next 3 games. The Tigers beat Kansas in Round 2 by the score of 89-75, then went on to blowout North Carolina Tar Heels by the score of 97-80. In the Elite 8 game, the Tigers beat Kentucky Wildcats by the score 77-71 in overtime.
The Virginia Cavaliers have finally started playing like they are a #1 seed in the tournament. They started a bit sluggish but have most recently started to play like they were expected to.
The Cavaliers have the best defense in College Basketball. They are ranked #1 in the country after allowing just 55.4 points per game to their opposition.
The Cavaliers have, what many would say, is the easiest path to the Final Four. They opened up the first round with a 15 point win over Gardner-Webb, then turned around and beat bubble-team Oklahoma by the score of 63-51. In the third round they struggled but still got the win over Oregon and in their last game, they advanced to the Final Four by knocking off Purdue in overtime 80-75.
Kyle Guy has led the Cavaliers all year but in the NCAA Tournament, he has sort of struggled in the first two games but most recently, he has turned it on! He is playing much better lately and I expect he will really turn out on Saturday against Auburn.
Cavaliers Advance To NCAA Finals
This game is probably going to be the lesser of the two games when it comes to excitement and entertainment. Auburn is banged up and injured and their offense is going to be a step behind with the injuries around the team. They will be without their 3rd leading scorer on the team Chuma Okeke, as they were in their last game, with a knee injury.
Add in the factor of playing the #1 defense in College Basketball and it could be ugly and out of hand early here!
The line in this game is currently sitting at Virginia -5.5. Now, I do not like this line at all. For starters, I think the overall line is too high. I think the true line should be 2-3, but they have made it 5.5. The first thing I am going to do is buy this game down, to 5 and to be completely honest, I wouldn’t fault you if you spent the extra few bucks and paid to get it down around 4.
Then and only then will I recommend you playing Virginia minus the points for a small wager! Nothing crazy here guys, go light and enjoy the game!
