Duke Blue Devils
This is hard to believe. We are sneaking up on mid-January. The conference plays is underway. This is Duke’s first true road game this season. It is not like they are going to play at who cares State Tech University either.
They are playing at the 13th ranked team in the country. After watching Duke manhandle Kentucky to start the season, I thought wow, this is a great team. They have beat Auburn by 6 and Texas Tech by 11 who are ranked. Their only loss was to Gonzaga by 2 points in Hawaii.
It is one thing to play in a tournament on the road, but it is much harder playing on a team’s home court with their rowdy fans. You can bet Tucker Civic Center will be rocking on Saturday. There is not much point in talking about Duke, their great players, coach and all that. We all already know all that, but I will anyway.
RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson lead the team in scoring with each averaging 20 points or better per game this season. Williamson is also the team leader pulling down nearly 10 boards a game. Tre Jones with 5.9 is the team leader in assists per game. Duke is 2-0 in the conference and trail Virginia Tech by a half game.
Florida State Seminoles
Florida St is definitely off to the start they wanted coming in ranked at number 13. However, in the ACC Conference, they have lost already and stand at 1-1. In a conference like this, you do not want to fall behind too much early. A loss is not devastating, but a win can go a long way in conference play.
FSU’s loss against Virginia is nothing to be ashamed of. Plenty of teams are going to lose to Virginia this year. It is easy to think that a game this early in the conference does not mean as much as late in the season, but it really does. Florida St has played two other ranked teams at the time winning both games vs Purdue & LSU in very close games.
The Seminoles are led by Terance Mann and Mfiondu Kabengele in scoring with 11.8 & 11.2 ppg respectively. Mann also leads the team in rebounds with 6.4 per game. Trent Forrest at 3.3 leads the team in assists.
- Duke is 5-0 SU & ATS last 5 games
- Under has cashed 7 of last 8 Duke games
- Duke is 14-7 ST & ATS last 21 on the road
- Duke is 6-1 SU last 7 vs Florida St
- Duke is 1-4 ATS last 5 vs Florida St
- 6 of last 8 have gone UNDER in this series
Duke gets the win….Florida St gets the cover
Despite having one loss already to Gonzaga, I think this Duke team is special. One of the hardest things to do in sports, especially in college hoops is to go on the road and win unless you are playing a really inferior team.
We all know Florida St is not that. I win would more than likely propel them into the top 10. It feels like the majority of what I have read so far has most people on Duke to cover. I am going against the grain here and taking FSU to keep this one close. Duke may struggle in the first half with this being their first true road game of the season. I think Florida St comes out strong, keeps the crowd into the game but Duke in the second half is just too good and the pulls out the win in Tallahassee. Duke by 5.
