Florida State Seminoles

The Florida State Seminoles advanced to the semifinals on Thursday by defeating the Virginia Tech Hokies in overtime by the score of 65-63.  That win was the 5th straight win in a row and the 13th out of 14 games.

Their only loss in that stretch of games came against North Carolina back on February 23, 2019 by the score of 77-59.  They have played very strong down the stretch and will now have their toughest matchup, when they face the Virginia Cavaliers.

These two faced each other back on January 5, 2019 and the Cavaliers dominated the game, winning by 13 points.  Virginia won the game 65-52, which started a bad stretch of games for Florida State where they lost 4 out of 5 games.

Virginia Cavaliers

The Virginia Cavaliers advanced to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament on Thursday by defeating the North Carolina State Wolfpack by the score 76-56.  Kyle Guy scored 29 points in the game to lead the Cavaliers and the top scorer in the game. Guy hit 7-three pointers to lead the Cavaliers past NC State.

The Cavaliers are now 29-2 overall and are cruising along, on their way to a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.  The Cavaliers only 2 losses this year came to their ACC rivals, Duke Blue Devils, and the Cavaliers are setting themselves up for a potential 3rd shot at Duke, permitting they each can make it out of the semifinals.

The Cavaliers defense is the best in the country. They are allowing just 54.6 points per game overall and just 56.7 in ACC games.  The defense slows the opposition down to nearly a crawl and forces them to play at their tempo and style of play, which is defense oriented.

When the Cavaliers are playing their style of basketball, no team in the country can stop them.  They have some extra added motivation this year, as they lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament last year against UMBC and this year, they want revenge and they want to go deep into the tournament.

Virginia Advances To ACC Tournament Finals

The Virginia Cavaliers are a team on a mission.  They are playing very strong basketball right now and will now get to face a team that they have already dominated this year in the Florida State Seminoles.

This game has the makings of a blowout, right from the start. On paper, Florida State doesn’t match up well at all with Virginia and without being able to push the ball up the court, they are legitimately going to struggle.  I look for Virginia to slow this game down to a crawl and win big, by double-digits on Friday!
