NCAA College Basketball National Championship Betting Preview: #1 Gonzaga Bulldogs vs. #1 Baylor Bears – Monday, April 5, 2021

by Spooky Express | April 4, 2021 |

Very rarely do we end up with the dream National Championship game. We will this year as the best two teams in college basketball meet on Monday night.

This will be the first time the number one and two overall seeds in the NCAA Tournament will meet in the title game since 2005 between North Carolina and Illinois. The game will be televised on CBS, Monday, April 5th at 9:20 PM Eastern.

Baylor Bears Betting Preview

Baylor put away any doubt who the better team was Saturday night against Houston. The Bears dominated from start to finish on their way to a 78-59 victory.

It was a balanced attack for Baylor as five players scored in double figures. Jared Butler led the way with 17 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Butler leads the team in scoring (16.6) and steals (2.0). He is shooting 40.4% from behind the arc and is second on the team in assists at 4.7 per contest.

The Bears have one of the best guard trios of all time, with Davion Mitchell and MaCio Teague joining Butler. Both are averaging 14 or more points per game and have effective field goal percentages north of 55%.

Baylor is ranked 2nd by Kenpom. The offense is 2nd in efficiency, and the defense ranks 27th.

Gonzaga Bulldogs Betting Preview

Gonzaga and UCLA gave us one of the best college basketball games of all time. Considering that it was a Final Four game, neither team could build much of a lead, and the excellent shot-making, you can argue it was the best of all time.

The team combined to shoot 58% from the field, and Jalen Suggs, Johnny Juzang, and Drew Timme gave us a night to remember. Timme led the Bulldogs with 25 points, but it is Suggs' heroics down the stretch that will go down in college basketball history.

Drew Timme leads Gonzaga in scoring at 19.2 points per game. He also leads the team in rebounding (7.1) and blocks (.7). He is shooting 67.7% from the two-point range and is ranked by Kenpom as the most efficient player in college basketball.

Joining Timme in double figures are Corey Kispert, Jalen Suggs, and Joel Ayayi. Kispert is shooting 44.5% from the three-point range and 62.8% from inside the arc.

Gonzaga is ranked number one by every ranking system that is commonly used. The offense ranks 1st in efficiency, and the defense is 8th.

With an off day to recover, I am not worried about the huge load the starters for Gonzaga played. All five played 38 or more minutes, with only Aaron Cook and Anton Watson played off the bench.

This should be a fantastic game, and only a superhuman effort by UCLA almost kept it from happening. The Bruins played almost a perfect game and could not beat the Bulldogs.

Baylor and Gonzaga are the two best offenses in all of college basketball, so we should be in for another treat on Monday night. I like Gonzaga to fulfill their destiny and bring home the first National Championship in school history.

I also think the under is a solid play as both teams come out a little tight and miss shots early.

Gonzaga 79, Baylor 73
