The Kansas Jayhawks will take on the Iowa State Cyclones in a BIG 12 matchup on Tuesday Night, February 13, 2018. This game is being played at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa and is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 PM ET.
This will be the second matchup of the year between the Jayhawks and Cyclones. The first game took place last month on January 9 and resulted in Kansas winning the game by the score 83-78. The Jayhawks won the game but failed to cover the large 16 point spread at home. That was the 7th time in the last 10 games that the Cyclones have covered the spread against the Jayhawks.
Bookmaker has made Kansas the favorite in the game by 6.5 points and set the total at 151.
Jayhawks Riding High In Second Place In Big 12
The Kansas Jayhawks are 19-6 on the year and are 8-4 in the BIG 12, which places them in 2nd place in the conference, one game behind the Texas Tech Red Raiders for the top spot in the conference. The Jayhawks only have 6 games left in the year, one of which is against the Red Raiders on February 24.
The Kansas Jayhawks are coming in off a 80-64 loss to the Baylor Bears on Saturday afternoon. That game was the lowest scoring output by Jayhawks all year and snapped a 11 game win streak that they had over Baylor.
This game with the Cyclones will be the Jayhawks second straight road game and a game that they simply cannot afford to let slip by. They are just 1 game ahead of West Virginia and 2 games ahead of Kansas State and Oklahoma for 3rd and 4th place.
Cyclones Young But Gaining Steam Down The Stretch
The Iowa State Cyclones are 13-11 overall and just 4-8 in the BIG 12, which places them in last place in the conference. They have lost 4 of their last 6 overall and 6 out of their last 10 games. They have had anything but a good year but their is a lot of optimism in Ames.
They are a very young team and on Saturday, they showed that even though they are young, they can play with the best teams in the conference. On Saturday, they defeated the #17 team in the country, Oklahoma Sooners, by the score of 88-80. They were led by a pair of freshman, who are looking like they are going to be stars!
Lindell Wigginton led all scorers with 26 points, for his record setting 9th 20 point game of the season. Cameron Lard is the other freshman and he posted a double double in the game, with 19 points and a eye dropping 17 rebounds.
Cyclones Keep It Close At Home
This game is rather complicated to handicap. Its always hard to pick against the Jayhawks but I think this is a decent spot for the Cyclones. They are starting to play together as a decent team and if these freshman can continue having these video game type stat lines, they are going to be tough to slow down. I think they keep it competitive here at home and cover the spread.
Pick: Iowa State +6.5 for 2 units
