Two top 25 teams will face off on Tuesday Night, February 12, 2019, in a BIG TEN Conference Matchup as the Maryland Terrapins host the Purdue Boilermakers!
This game is being played at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland with the tip-off scheduled to take place at 6:30 PM ET.
Bookmaker has set the point spread for this game as a Pick’Em and put the betting total for Over/Under plays at 141 points.
The Purdue Boilermakers are sitting in 2nd place in the BIG TEN Conference. They have gone 17-6 on the season and 10-2 in conference play. Purdue is riding a 8 game win streak and coming in off a 19 point blowout over Nebraska on Saturday.
The Boilermakers offense is ranked 53rd in the country, averaging 78.8 points per game. The Boilermakers have two players averaging double-digits in Carsen Edwards and Ryan Cline. Edwards is averaging 24.6 points per game, while Cline is scoring an average of 12.7 points per game.
Purdue’s defense is ranked 99th in the country and are allowing just 68.4 points per game. Nojel Eastern leads the team on the defensive side of the court, averaging 123 rebounds, 83 of which are defensive. Matt Haarms is second on the team with 114 rebounds, 78 of which are defensive.
The Maryland Terps enter this game in 4th place in the BIG TEN Conference. They are 18-6 on the year with a 9-4 conference record. The Terps enter this game off a win last Wednesday Night over the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Terps will have nearly an entire week to prepare for the Boilermakers and should be fresh, coming into this game.
The Terps have shown signs of wearing down late in games so that break may be just what they needed. They have lost 3 of their last 5 games overall and now look to head into the toughest part of the season against Purdue, Michigan and Iowa in their next 3 games.
The Terps offense is ranked 153rd in College Basketball and is averaging 73.8 points per game. Anthony Cowan Jr. leads the Terps in scoring. Cowan is averaging 16.2 points per game and is one of three players averaging double-digit scoring.
Bruno Fernando and Jalen Smith are the other two in double-digit scoring for the Terps. Fernando in their top Big Man with 14.8 points per game and Smith is averaging 11.8 points per game.
The Terrapins defense is 39th in the country and are allowing just 64.9 points per game. That number drops by a point when they are playing in Big Ten Conference games. Fernando leads the team on the defensive side of the ball, where he is a vacuum under the rim. Fernando has 256 rebounds on the season, 186 of which are on the defensive side of the court.
Terps Get Win Over Purdue
The Boilermakers have the second best record in the BIG TEN at home this year but the problem that I see is this game is being played on the road, where they are just 3-4! They will be facing the Terrapins team that is also very strong at home in the Xfinity Center with a record of 12-2.
These two teams faced each other back on December 6, 2018 with Purdue winning 62-60. Maryland shot the ball terrible in that game but somehow still was able to keep it close. This game should be much different. They are playing at home instead of on the road and that home field advantage should be enough help to push them to a win!
