The Virginia Cavaliers will visit the North Carolina Tar Heels on Monday Night, February 11, 2019, in an ACC Conference matchup.
This game is being played at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with the tip-off scheduled to take place at 7:00 PM ET.
Bookmaker has set the point spread for this game at Virginia Cavaliers -1 and put the betting total for Over/Under plays at 143 points.
The Virginia Cavaliers are coming in off a heartbreaking loss to the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday Night. The Cavaliers lost the game 81-71, which was their second loss of the season, both of which were against Duke. The Duke Blue Devils scored 81 points on Virginia, which is more than any other team has been able to score on the tough Cavalier Defense.
Their defense is the best in the country, ranked #1 and only allowing 54.1 points per game. The bottom line with Virginia is when you can score on them, you can be competitive but if you allow them to dictate the pace of the game, they are going to beat you. Duke didn’t allow that in either game this year against Virginia.
The Cavaliers are now 20-2 overall and 8-2 in the ACC. They are now sitting in 3rd place, right behind their opposition, the North Carolina Tar Heels and first place Duke Blue Devils. The Cavaliers have 8 games left in the regular season before the ACC Tournament gets underway, so there is still plenty of time to make up ground but they can’t fall too far back behind North Carolina, which makes this game basically a must win.
Kyle Guy leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.6 points per game but only by small percentage points over De’Andre Hunter, who is averaging 14.5 points per game. Both players will need to step it up on Monday, when they face the Tar Heels.
North Carolina Tar Heels
Where Virginia is strong on Defense….the North Carolina Tar Heels are just as strong on Offense! They are ranked #2 in the country and are averaging 88.3 points per game. They enter this game off a Saturday victory over Miami Hurricanes in overtime by the score of 88-85.
That win was their 7th win in a row and their 2nd in that stretch over Miami. The Tar Heels have beat Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Louisville and NC State, in addition to Miami twice in that stretch.
The Offense is led by Coby White, Cameron Johnson, Luke Maye. White is averaging 15.9 points per game and leads the team in scoring. Johnson is second on the team with 15.8 points per game and is the teams highest percentage 3-point shooter on the team. Luke Maye is third on the team with 15.1 points per game.
Cavaliers Keep It Close, Get Road Cover Over North Carolina
This isn’t really a must win but it is as close as you will get on Monday Night when Virginia travels to Chapel Hill, NC. Virginia is coming off a tough loss to Duke and must get back into the win column on Monday. Going into North Carolina and getting a win is never easy but doing it against a Tar Heel team that is red hot right now is even tougher.
That being said, when push comes to shove, I think we will see a much stronger defense on the court on Monday Night. They are going to slow this game down to a crawl and make North Carolina play at their tempo. That will help Virginia and drastically hurt North Carolina, who rely on the fast pace uptempo style of game for success.
I think Virginia goes on the road and pulls off the road win over North Carolina! Play Virginia here on the road!
