2020 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl Betting Preview: Tulane Green Wave vs. Southern Miss Golden Eagles – Jan. 4, 2020

The 2019 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2020 and will feature the Southern Miss Golden Eagles taking on the Tulane Green Wave. 

The Armed Forces Bowl is being played at the Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas with the kickoff scheduled to take place at 11:30 AM ET on ESPN.

The Armed Forces Bowl will be in its 17th year as a bowl game and this year, sponsored by Lockheed Martin. Both Tulane and Southern Miss will be making their debut’s in the Armed Forces Bowl.

Previous Matchups

This will be the 31st time the Golden Eagles and Green Wave will meet.  The Golden Eagles hold a decisive edge in the series, winning 23 of the 30 matchups. 

Southern Miss has won 6 straight in the series with the last game taking place in 2010.  In that game, the Golden Eagles won 46-30.

Southern Miss Golden Eagles Preview

The Eagles’ offense is led by quarterback Jack Abraham.  The junior signal caller has had a big season yardage wise.  

He has completed 67.5% of his passes on the season for 3,329 yards, which is 18th in the nation.  He has only thrown 18 touchdown passes though, which does not really jive with his yards.  

He has also thrown 15 interceptions.  Abraham has been sacked 20 times and is averaging 8.7 yards per attempt.

The main running duties have been split between two players.  Junior Kevin Perkins has carried the ball 102 times for 548 yards and three touchdowns.  

He is averaging 5.4 yards per carry.  Perkins’ best game of the season came against Rice when he carried the ball 13 times for 86 yards and two scores.  

Senior wide receiver De’Michael Harris has carried the ball 113 times for 541 yards and five scores.  Harris had a huge game against the University of Texas-San Antonio, carrying the ball 16 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior Quez Watkins leads the receiving crew.  He has caught 55 passes for 1,024 yards and five touchdowns.  Watkins is averaging 18.6 yards per catch.  

Against UTSA, he had seven catches for 137 yards and a touchdown.  His best game, however, came against North Texas when he caught eight balls for 198 yards and a touchdown.  

Junior Tim Jones also has had a good season, catching 66 passes for 840 yards and three touchdowns.  He is averaging 12.7 yards per catch.  

In a loss against Western Kentucky, Jones caught seven passes for 159 yards and a touchdown.  Southern Miss is averaging 411 yards and 27.8 points per game. 

Tulane Green Wave Preview

The Green Wave are led offensively by dual-threat quarterback Justin McMillan.  The senior has had his hand in quite a bit of the offense, leading the team in passing yards and rushing yards.  

He has completed 57.4% of his passes for 2,229 yards and 14 touchdowns.  He has been intercepted 10 times and sacked 25 times. McMillan has also carried the ball 152 times for 704 yards and 12 touchdowns.  He is averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

The rest of the running game is spread out over several players.  Besides McMillan, eight players have scored rushing touchdowns for the Green Wave this season.  

Senior running back Corey Dauphine leads this group with 70 carries for 569 yards and seven touchdowns.  He has an impressive average of 8.1 yards per carry.  

Sophomore Amare Jones and freshman Cameron Carroll have found the end zone four times each.

The passing game has really been confined to four players.  Senior wideout Darnell Mooney leads the group with 45 catches for 670 yards and five touchdowns.  

Senior Jalen McCleskey has caught 35 passes for 494 yards and three touchdowns.  He is averaging 14.1 yards per catch. The Green Wave are averaging 455.2 yards and 33.3 points per game.

Handicapping Breakdown

This game is almost 2 weeks away and there just isn’t enough information out there right now to give you an educated pick in this game.  We don’t even have a lean in this game, just too soon.

Update: We aren't really big fans of this game. We think that both teams are going to post some points in this game and force the game over the posted total. We will put a small lean on the over 56 (buy it down) but no Best Bet or Regular Play from this game.
