Southern Miss Golden Eagles
When you look at Southern Miss’s record of 2-1, you would initially think that they aren’t really a bad team but then when you look at the teams they’ve played and the score, you start to question yourself. They kicked off the season with a 55-7 win over Jackson State, which naturally was a blowout.
Then they took on the UL-Monroe Warhawks and lost the game outright 21-20 as 5 point favorites. Last week, they got a win over Rice by the score of 40-22. Needless to say, they haven’t really opened any eyes along the way this year and to make matters even worse, all three of their games this year, have been at home. This will be their first true road game of the season.
Southern Miss has struggled with running the ball this year and that is only going to get worse this week against a tough defense like Auburn. What they lack in running the ball, they make up through the air. The question remains, can they throw the ball on the Auburn secondary?
The Auburn Tigers opened up the regular season in College Football with a statement win over National Title contender Washington Huskies by the score of 21-16. The Tigers followed that up with a throttling of Alabama State 63-9, prior to starting their SEC schedule.
Since opening up their SEC conference play, they have gone 1-1 SU and ATS with a win over Arkansas but a loss against LSU.
Last week is a bit concerning to know that Arkansas actually outgained the Tigers on offense. Auburn only posted 225 yards of total offense last week against the Razorbacks but their defense
Take Points On Road
This game is sort of hard to handicap so I’m going to start off by saying this is just a 1 unit play. I am having trouble with trusting the offense of Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers. They are ranked 91st in the country and relying too much on the defense each week. Additionally, the Tigers return home, where they are just 5-16-1 ATS as home favorites since 2014. I think the online lines makers are giving them a bit too much credit here and will roll with the points. Take Southern Miss +26 for 1 unit.
