I’ve said it all season long Georgia has a strong running offense, but if you shut down the run they are a very average team. They hadn’t faced an elite run defense this season until they faced Auburn’s on Saturday. Lucky for them Kentucky isn’t as strong at run stopping as Auburn, but they still have a formidable front. Kentucky has been up and down all season, but still have a chance at a 10 win season if they are able to win these last two games and their bowl game.
They likely won’t reach 10, but 9 is still a good number for Kentucky that was projected to finish near the bottom of the SEC East. These two teams have played each other 70 time with Georgia leading the series 56-12-2. Georgia has won the last 7 dating back to 2010. Let’s take a closer look at these two teams and we’ll start with the underdog Wildcats.
The Wildcats are 7-3 SU and 3-7 ATS. The Wildcats have lost two close games that they should have won. The first was to Florida, a team that hasn’t been good this season, in which they led for a majority of the game. They also lost a game most recently to an Ole Miss team that has had a lot of distractions this season that dated back to the summer in which their head coach Hugh Freeze was fired.
They lost this game at the very end of the game. They have a very average offense and are near the middle of the back when it comes to the three major categories. They do have one of the better rushing defenses as they are only allowing around 121 rushing yards per game which ranks 15th in college football which will allow them to keep this game close.
The Bulldogs are 9-1 SU and 6-4 ATS. The Bulldogs were flat out embarrassed Saturday against Auburn in the South’s Oldest Rivalry. Which isn’t surprising that they lost because Auburn has one of the best front 7s in college football and Georgia was exposed on the fact that if a team can stop the run then they are vulnerable.
Fromm is a very average quarterback, but he will be one of the better quarterbacks in college football in a few years, but he will still have growing pains as he is a true freshman playing in a conference with some of the best defenses in college football. Georgia still remains one of the best running teams in college football even though they were held to 46 rushing yards well below their average of 256 for the season.
Kentucky’s defense keeps the game closer than expected
Make no mistake about it Georgia will bounce back and although their chances of making the playoffs took a huge hit they will still beat Kentucky Saturday. Kentucky’s run defense will keep this game closer than the 21 points that Vegas is giving them. I expect Georgia to win by 10-14 points in this game.
Pick: Kentucky +21.5 for 3 units
