by Mark Daloisio | October 29, 2019 |

The South Carolina Gamecocks (2-3, 0-1 away) travel to Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia to take on the 3rd ranked Georgia Bulldogs (5-0, 3-0 home) in an SEC East matchup of early Saturday afternoon.

The Gamecocks are coming off a bye week, two weeks ago the played host to Kentucky beat them 24-7 covering as a 3 point favorite. Georgia traveled to Tennessee and manhandled the Vols 43-14 covering as a big 24 point favorite.

These two last met in 2018 in South Carolina with similar results, Georgia beat the Vols 41-17.

South Carolina Betting Preview

South Carolina (2-3) comes into this one with a conference record of 1-2 and in 4th place in the SEC East trailing (3-0) Florida by 1½ games.  This week's opponent is in 2nd place with a 2-0 record.

S Carolina knocked off Kentucky last week 24-7 with a dominant defense. Kentucky was held scoreless until just 2:32 remained in the game.  Thanks to the defense the offense did not have to do much and they didn’t with a single score in each quarter in the win. The defense held Kentucky to just 9 first downs and 212 total yards in the win.

QB Ryan Hillinski was 15/27 for only 140 yards with no touchdown or interceptions.  It was the running game the paved the way with two rushers gaining over 100 yards each.  Tavien Feaster (107) & Rico Dowdle (102) both had 15 carries to eclipse the 100-yard mark.

S Carolina is scoring 30.6 ppg while giving up 24.4 points per game.  Offensively they are ranked 63rd in the country in points scored per game.  On the other side of the ball, they are tied for 53rd in points allowed per game.

Nothing special about those rankings, neither good or bad. South Carolina has actually not been too bad against Georgia going 4-6 SU & 6-4 ATS in the last 10 games they have played them.

Georgia Betting Preview

The Georgia Bulldogs (5-0) have national championship dreams on their minds, but first, they need to take care of conference play before reaching that goal.

At 2-0 in the SEC East, they trail 1st place Florida who is 3-0 by a half-game. Georgia traveled to Tennessee last week and stomped the Vols 43-14. Georgia used a well-balanced attack led by QB Jake Fromm in the win.

Fromm completed 24 of his 29 pass attempts for 288 yards and 2 touchdown passes, with no interceptions.  The Bulldogs rushed for 238 yards with Brian Herrien leading the way with 88 yards on 11 carries.

D’Andre Swift added 72 yards on 17 carries.  Swift also led the team in receiving with 4 catches for 72 yards. Nine different players caught balls for 288 yards on the day.

Georgia is scoring 42.8 ppg while giving up 10.8 points per game.  That offensive output has them ranked 12th in the country in points scored per game.

The defense is better yet ranked 7th in fewest points allowed per game. That is a deadly combination and that is why this team is tough to beat.  This team should be 7-0 when Florida comes to town on November 2nd.

The spread feels about right to me in this one.  I do not see any value with either team, so I am going to look at the total.  I know Georgia is going to put some points on the board, probably at least 34.

That means S Carolina only needs to put up 19 points, even less than that if Georgia scores more.  I can see some second-half points from the Gamecocks after trailing big. The total in the lower 50’s just feels low to me.  Going with a gut feeling in this one and taking over.
