Matchup at a Glance

Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia Date & Time: Monday, September 4, 2017 at 8:00 PM Spread: Tennessee -3 Over/Under Total: 56 Quick Pick: Tennessee Volunteers -3 for 4 units
The Tennessee Volunteers will take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Monday Night Football! The game will start at 8:00 PM ET and can be seen on ESPN.

Volunteers Have New Offense

The Tennessee Volunteers went 9-4 last season and played in the postseason, where they won the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl 38-24 over the Nebraska Cornhuskers. They will put a completely new offensive unit on the field on Monday Night.
They have a new quarterback, a new running back and new wide receivers. The Vols are expected to start Junior Quinten Dormady but some suspect that redshirt freshman Jarrett Guaratano could get a significant amount of snaps under center. John Kelly will take over the role of RB left open by the departure of Alvin Kamara. Kelly should be able to rip off some big yardage as Georgia Tech’s defense is expected to be once again very bad! The Volunteers announced Wednesday that they will be without offensive tackle Drew Richmond and Darrin Kirkland Jr for their opener on Monday Night. Richmond was suspended for violating team rules and Kirkland had surgery on his knee for a meniscus tear. The Vols are 8-0 SU and 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 season openers.

Yellow Jackets Flexbone Offense Returns 8 Starters

Georgia Tech went 9-4 last year and went on to win the TaxSlayer Bowl over the Kentucky Wildcats 33-18. The Yellow Jackets will once again employ the flexbone triple option. This option is very difficult to plan and prepare for. The offense will return 8 starters from last year including running back Dedrick Mills, who led this team in rushing in 2016 as a freshman. The Yellow Jackets are going to have a huge fanbase at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium Monday Night as this game is being played up the road from the college. The Jackets are 9-1 SU and 5-2-1 ATS in their last 10 season openers.

Volunteers Win On The Road

Last year in the bowl game, the Yellow Jackets defeated an SEC team so nothing is impossible but for them to win back to back games over SEC teams is a far stretch for a team that lacks a physical presence up the middle and the ability to pressure the quarterback. I look for Tennessee to start out slow but come on strong late in the game. Tennessee wins this game by 10 points. Pick: Tennessee Volunteers -3 for 4 units
