These two PAC-12 members have faced each other each year for the past 7-years, with the Arizona Wildcats holding a slight edge 4-3 SU and ATS.
The past two years, the matchup has gone to Utah with the Utes winning 30-24 last year as 4.5 point favorites and in 2016 by the score 36-23 as 9.5 point favorites.
This game is being played at Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah with the kickoff scheduled to take place at 10:00 PM ET. This game will be televised on ESPN.
GTBets has set the point spread for this game at Utah Utes -13.5 and total for over/under plays at 51.5 points.
The Arizona Wildcats started out the year with a bit of a struggle, losing their first two games of the season to BYU by the score of 28-23 and Houston by the score of 45-18. They have sort of bounced back, winning 3 of their last 4 games to bring their current record to 3-2.
The Wildcats came into the season with a ton of hope and excitement with new Head Coach Kevin Sumlin and Heisman Hopeful Quarterback Khalil Tate but the results haven’t been what they would have expected.
The Wildcats aren’t using Tate the way he was successful last season. Last year, Tate came into the game plan and led the Wildcats by using his legs and getting outside the pocket, where he could make the decision to throw the ball or run the ball.
Tate was nearly impossible to bring down once he had the ball in his hand but this year, they really haven’t given him the chance at running the ball. Sumlin’s offense this year requires Tate remain in the pocket and allow the running to the running backs.
The Utah Utes enter this game with a 3-2 SU and 2-3 ATS record. They are fresh off an upset win over the #14 Stanford Cardinals by the score of 40-21. The Utes two losses came against the #7 Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars.
The Utes have one of the top defenses in the FBS. They are ranked 3rd against the rush and 57th against the pass, and hold the 10th ranking in overall Total Defense. The Utes do not allow teams to run the ball on them.
They are averaging 75 yards per game allowed on defense and that will be tough on Arizona, knowing the Wildcats rely heavily on the running game, which is averaging 202 yards per game on the ground.
One thing that benefits the Utes is they are back at home. The past two games, they’ve gone out on the road and had tough games, but now they return home where they are 1-1 SU and ATS.
Utah Defense Keeps Game Low Scoring
This game is simple math to me. First and foremost, Utah has the 3rd best defense at stopping the run. Teams struggle with running the ball on them and that will pose major problems for Arizona. Utah is all about controlling the ball and the clock, and not getting into shootouts with the opposition. I look for them to mimic that game plan this week against Arizona, in a low scoring game.
The line in the game is set at 51.5 at GTBets. I suggest you buy the extra half point, to bump the game to 52 and roll with the under here!
