The Detroit Lions will head to East Rutherford, New Jersey on Monday Night to take on the Eli Manning and the New York Giants. The Giants and Lions have played each other 5 times dating back to 2007, with the Giants winning 4 out of 5 times SU and 3 out of 5 times ATS. The last 8 times the Giants and Lions faced each other, the road team has gone 6-2 ATS.
Lions Well Rounded In Game 1
The Lions opened up their 2017 season sort of sluggish out the gate but picked it up in the 4th quarter….wait, doesn’t that sound familiar for the Lions. In 2016, they had more 4th quarter comebacks than any team in the NFL!
Part of the issue with the Lions was they never really got their rushing attack going on Sunday. Top rusher Ameer Abdullah rushed the ball 15 times for only 30 yards.
QB Matthew Stafford went 29/41 for 292 yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 INT. Stafford looked really good and his improved accuracy was evident throughout the game. Stafford’s favorite target on Sunday was Golden Tate. Stafford found Tate 10 times for 107 yards but the touchdown target on the day was Kenny Golladay. Golladay caught 4 passes for 69 yards and brought in 2 touchdown passes.
The Lions defense had a nice day last week against Carson Palmer and the Cardinals. The Lions D picked off Palmer 3 times and held the league's most anticipated rushing attacks, behind David Johnson, to just 45 yards rushing! The Lions have been a very nice team to play on Monday Nights, going 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games on Monday Night.
Giants Offense Struggles Continue
The Giants opened up the 2017 season last week with a SU and ATS loss against the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants went on the road and took a 19-3 loss in front of a hostile Dallas crowd. The Giant offense was without Odell Beckham Jr as he is still nursing a sprained ankle. With Beckham out of the game, new Giants WR Brandon Marshall found himself being placed in double coverage packages that kept him out of the game on the statistic side of things. The offense looked good on paper coming into preseason but they significantly struggled in preseason with scoring points with the offense. This was the 7th straight game that the Giants failed to reach 20 points.
The Giants have been a great team to play after a loss, going 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games following a SU and ATS loss. The Giants seem to rise to the occasion when they are at home, going 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games against teams with a winning record.
Lion Get Win At MetLife Stadium
The Lions looked very balanced in the game last week against a tough Arizona Cardinal club. Their defense was fast off the line and their secondary looked to be in midseason form. The offense looked really good with the passing game, even though the rushing attack could use some help!
The Giants on the other hand are a mess! Last week’s matchup with the Cowboys was extremely important for the divisional standings to start the season and they couldn’t even score a single touchdown. This week will only get tougher as they face a tough Lions defense. Detroit wins here and starts out the year 2-0
