Draftkings released their salaries early for next Friday's UFC 207 from Las Vegas, Nevada and The Spooky Express has you covered with some tips and points to help guide you along the way. This is the final MMA Draftkings event of 2016 and we hope you have enjoyed our advice, and most of all, won some DK games.
Before we give out our plays, we want to remind you that NAC announced on Christmas Eve that Cain Velasquez will NOT be fighting at UFC 207 due to their claim he is “Unfit to fight”. Please make certain you made necessary changes to your lineups that do not include Cain Velasquez or Fabricio Werdum. Best of luck this week in your Daily Fantasy Sports MMA!
Spooky Express Top Tier Draftkings Play
Alex Garcia $8600
Our top tier play this week for Draftkings is Alex Garcia. First off, let me say I thought Mike Pyle should have retired after his last fight and that isn't a knock to the man, it is simply stating a fact. The man didn't look good in his last 3 of 4 fights, getting knocked out in 2 of those fights. He is 41 years old and at some point, you have to face the reality that your chin has gone away and it's time to hang up the gloves. Pyle has not faced that fact yet and for his safety, I hope he will after this fight.
That being said, Alex Garcia has a way to get you a lot of points even without a finish. He gets a lot of takedowns in his fights, which with the new Draftkings scoring, will help him drastically. Add in the fact that Pyle has a glass chin that can be rattled, you also have the ability to score with knock downs. Garcia will be the much bigger fighter and I am looking for him to get 2-3 takedowns and a knockout finish early in the 2nd round. Get him in your lineups!
Spooky Express Mid Tier Draftkings Play
Johny Hendricks $8000
Our mid tier play this week on Draftkings will be Johny Hendricks. Some of you may read this and stop and say that I have lost my mind…..but hear me out. Johnny Hendricks will be very low owned in this tournament because… A) He has looked bad the past 2 fights B) His recent weight issued will force people elsewhere C) He has lost 3 of his last 4 D) His last two wins have both been Decisions. That all being said, let us not forget that “Big Rigg” has the ability to end a fight with one punch and if you look at his last 4 losses, they are all against the elite of the welterweight division. He lost a decision in his last fight against Kelvin Gastelum. The fight prior to that, he lost to Stephen Thompson, who just went the distance with the UFC Welterweight Champ Ty Woodley. Prior to that, he lost a controversial pair of split decisions to Robbie Lawler and George St. Pierre. People have wrote this guy off but I think it is safe to say that Neil Magny isn't in the same category as those previously mentioned. I like my chances with Hendricks on my team.
Spooky Express Low Tier Draftkings Play
Cody Garbrandt $7,700
Our low tier option this week is a play that I feel is drastically underpriced, Cody Garbrandt. Let me first say that anytime you have someone who can end a fight with one punch and is priced under $8k, he becomes a must play if you want to get a few of the upper tier plays. When I first began the research for this low tier play, I had John Linekar penciled in but changed it due to his constant issues with the weight cut. If you get to Thursday and Linekar doesn't have issues with the weight cut, I would switch this play to Linekar and save $300.
Cody Garbrandt is 10-0 overall and fighting in the Co-Main Event of the Night. Garbrandt has won his last 3 fights by 1st round KO/TKO. He has a total of 7 first round KO/TKO's to his resume and has finished 9 of 10 opponents by KO or TKO. Getting him at $7700 is the equivalent of walking into a fancy steakhouse and ordering the most expensive steak on the menu for $5! It is a no brainer! Get him on your team!
Spooky Express Fight to Avoid
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Tarec Saffedine
This week, we had to really search to find a fight to avoid for UFC 207 because there is a lot of value on this card for Draftkings. Usually, I can pick two or three fights to basically rule out and avoid because of the simple finish rates but this is actually a nice card where a lot of fighters have finishing capability.
When I dug deep, I found that Dong Hyun Kim vs. Tarec Saffedine is the best fight to avoid. For starters, both of these fighters have very low finish rate percentages. Kim is only finishing his opponents at a clip of 52% and Saffedine is only finishing his opponents at a rate of 38%. That is very low for both fighters. If you add in the fact that Kim hasn't fought since 11/28/2015, you can expect him to start slow and have some ring rust. I am looking for this fight to drag out into the late rounds, if not go to a decision. That is my reasoning on avoiding this fight.
This is a very nice week for Draftkings with a ton of games, so pick your team, enjoy some MMA on Friday Night and best of luck to everyone playing this week!!!
