PGA Tour Preview: The Sentry
The Sentry Golf Tournament will take place this week to kick off the 2025 campaign for the PGA Tour. This tournament is formally known as the Tournament of Champions.
The tournament will only have 60 golfers and is stacked with some very good talent. Let’s break down the course and what golfers have the edge here!
Course Details
The Sentry Tournament is played at The Plantation Course at Kapalua. This course is part of the beautiful island of Maui. The course is a par 73 and measures 7,596 yards in length.
The average size of the greens are roughly 8,700 square feet. Therefore, golfers with good iron play will benefit and have an advantage on this course. The greens are Bermuda Grass and run quickly at a 10 or 11 on the stimp meter.
This course relies heavily on Driving Distance, so long hitters have a significant advantage here. You’ll want to look for golfers who can hit it a mile and do well on Bermuda Grass. Those reachable par 5s will be much easier to score on for those with long drivers and who can have the distance to shorten the course.
One thing to keep in mind here is this course sits along the coastline so if Mother Nature decides she wants to play, the rest will suffer. Right now, at the time of this publication, the weather looks immaculate but that can change in the blink of an eye… so be sure to check that out before the tournament starts on Thursday afternoon.
GOLFERS TO BET ON IN THE SENTRY
Ludvig Aberg +1800 – Aberg has the key benefit that we love. He has improved in each of his last 3 tournaments, with the last one being a 6th place finish at the Hero World Challenge. He is our top play this week!
Sungjai Im +2200 – Im is in phenomenal form right now. Im ended the year finishing inside the Top 13 in four straight. He ended up in 9th in the Hero World Challenge, 13th in he Zozo Championship, 6th in the Tour Championship, and 11th in the BMW Championship. He finished in 5th place last year, and he is primed for a big showing this year!
Sahith Theegala +2800 – He was the runner up last year here and enters in good form. He is coming in off a 8th placed finish at the Hero World Challenge and is ranked the 13th best golfer in the world!
Wyndham Clark +4500 – Clark checks all the boxes for us here. He is long off the tee and decent putter. We look for Clark to have a good year in 2025 and it could start right here with a win in Hawaii. He finished in 29th place here last year and he should improve on that.
Sam Burns over Corey Conners -110 – We love Sam Burns putting and in this spot here, we get him at -110 for the Tournament Head-To-Head. We will throw 2 units on this play!
