MATCHUP AT A GLANCE
Golf Course: The International
Location: Badhoevedorp, Netherlands
Date & Time: Thursday, Sept. 12-15, 2019
This week, the Pro’s of the European Tour head to the Netherlands for the KLM Open. The KLM Open was originally known as the Dutch Open and was started in 1912. There have been a ton of name changes, with several different sponsors for this tournament and now is simply referred to as the KLM Open.
The International Golf Course Details
The International Golf Course will host the 2019 KLM Open. The International is located in Badhoevedorp, Netherlands, which is located about 30 minutes away from Amsterdam.
The course is sort of unique in the fact that most golf courses are located in a nice peaceful area with very little noise and lots of tranquility. That is definitely not the case here at The International.
There is an airport within an eyeshot of the course, Schiphol Airport, and overall, it seems very noisy for the players. I can see this being one of those courses that they play on one time, and have a very difficult time getting pro’s to come back to.
The course plays out as a Par 73 and measures 7,000 yards. The course is definitely very scorable, including all of the Par 5’s, which potentially we could see some eagles.
Fairways – The fairways at The International has somewhat narrow fairways however they don’t appear to be hard to hit. For the most part, those with half-way decent accuracy should be fine on this course, even with the narrow fairways mainly because the angles are pretty much straight away.
Greens – The Greens at The International are big but they are difficult to play on. For starters, they are lightning fast. With the right weather, these greens will play like glass and due to the fact that they are undulating, it should make for some serious headaches. Add in the fact that wind is normally a factor in this part of the region and it should make for some very interesting play this week.
Hazards – There is some greenside bunkers that the golfers will need to be aware of at The International. These can make the approach shots much more important. There is also water in play here in the Netherlands on 10 holes. These hazards need to be paid attention to or golfers will quickly find themselves behind early.
KLM Open System Attributes
This seems like a tournament where you have to have a decent scrambler. For starters, the rough is punitive as it is tall and problematic. Even without the rough, we still have those golfers that need to be able to recover from the bunkers and areas around those pesky water hazards.
You will also want to have golfers with a decent short game. I don’t think we will see many golfers using many drivers this week as the short game is much more important.
KLM Open Golfers
OK, now that we have covered the details of the tournament and the course, let’s take a look at the golfers we like for this week at the KLM Open.
Thomas Pieters +1200 at MyBookie for 2 Units
Pieters is in the best form of his career right now. Pieters won a month ago at the D+D Real Czech Masters and followed that up with a 12th place finish at the Omega European Masters. He wasn’t done just yet and last week, finished 20th at the Porsche European Open. He is one of the best golfers on the European Tour and unquestionably one of the most reliable.
Gavin Green +2800 at MyBookie for 1 Unit
As many of you know, I’ve been riding this Gavin Green bandwagon for the past few weeks and we have came very close to cashing in. He finished in 12th place 2 weeks ago at the Omega European Masters and 16th the week prior at the Scandinavian Invitation. I really like this kid and think we will see him get a win this season on the European Tour.
Sam Horsfield +2800 at MyBookie for 1 Unit
Sam Horsfield is looking for his first win on the European Tour and this could be the week that he cashes in for us. He finished in 14th place in a competitive Porsche European Open and has three Top 15’s in his last 4 tournaments overall. If he comes out and has the putter working, he can certainly compete for the win here in the Netherlands.
