The Barbasol Championship will take place this week from Thursday to Sunday at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
This tournament originally came to fruition back in 2015, where it was played at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Alabama. The problem with playing at Robert Trent Jones Golf Course was it was just too small to hold people on the grounds and it was entirely too hot in July in Alabama!
It is a shoulder game for most pro’s beings the majority of big names will take action in a major tournament, The Open Championship, over in England!
The winner of this tournament does not earn an invitation to the Masters, as with other PGA Tournaments, however many of the pros have used this tournament early in their career to punch their ticket with a two year PGA Tour exemption. With that being said, the Spooky Express still finds value in a few golfers this week and therefore we decided to release a 2021 Barbasol Championship handicapping article in addition to this week’s Open Championship.
Last year, the tournament was canceled due to Covid 19. The year prior, we witnessed Jim Herman take a one stroke lead on the final day and beat out Kelly Kraft for the tournament trophy. In 2018, Troy Merritt grabbed the win, while Grayson Murray won the Barbasol Championship by one stroke over Chad Collins in 2017. Merritt shot a -23, which has been the best score for a Barbasol Championship in the history of the tournament. The other winners of the Barbasol Championship were Aaron Baddeley in 2016 and Scott Piercy in 2015.
Keene Trace Golf Club Details
The Barbasol Championship is played at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. This will be the third time a PGA event has been held in the state of Kentucky since 1959, excluding majors. The Course plays out at approximately 7,300 yards and is a par 72.
On paper and using 2 years of tournament history at this location, it looks like this should be another easy scoring event for the pro's of the PGA. Keep in mind the weather. It is going to be hot hot hot and that is going to work against these golfers. No one wants to walk around a course with triple digits but that is what you’re going to get this week.
There really isn’t enough course history in this tournament to justify using a system on this week’s tournament. Instead, we will focus on guys in decent overall form over the last 3-5 tournaments.
Earl's Barbasol Championship Golfers
Let me start by saying this is one of the weakest tournaments that the pro’s will play on this year and I’m not really thrilled with the caliber of competition that we are seeing in this tournament. There are 132 golfers signed up to play this week and none of them rank inside the Top 50. We will not be playing heavy here, just a little something for rooting interest. The only sportsbook that I have found odds for this tournament at the time of publishing was BetOnline. All of the following plays were placed at BetOnline. That being said, here we go!
- Luke List +2500
- Taylor Pendrith +2500
- Greyson Sigg +3000
- Nick Taylor +4000

- Chesson Hadley +6000
- Kevin Tway +11000
