This week, the pro’s of the PGA will head to Memphis, Tennessee for the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational at TPC Southwind. The St. Jude Invitational had previously been referred to as the St. Jude Invitational and has been played since 1958, making it one of the longest running tournaments that played on tour each year.
The St. Jude Invitational has been played at its current site location, TPC Southwind since 1989. This is only the second year that the St. Jude Invitational will play as part of the World Golf Championships and is sponsored by FedEx.
There is plenty of course history for the golfers playing this week and we strongly suggest you take a long hard look at some of the course attributes we have selected, as the past few weeks, these have really been coming in strong. We will get into the course attributes a little later on in the article.
Unlike in years past, this year this tournament is an invitation only event, which means there will only be 78 golfers playing in the tournament, which is up 14 golfers from last year.
TPC Southwind Details
The FedEx St. Jude Invitational is played at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. This course was designed by Rob Prichard, with the assistance of Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller and was placed right smack dab in the middle of a dairy farm. Loren Roberts later helped redesign the course to make it more modernized and current with today’s PGA courses.
TPC Southwind is a Par 70 golf course that measures 7,244 yards. With being just under 7,300 yards, it isn’t overly long but there are a few holes that have some long doglegs that can create some distance for the golfers.
The course is highlighted by its abundance of water hazards that run through the course. Close to every hole on the course will have water playing an important part, either a part of the hole, or close enough to become a factor.
The fairways can be difficult to hit so accuracy plays an important role on this course. The greens are also difficult to put on so it benefits you to have golfers that are decent with the irons and have good putters.
If golfers are not able to hit the fairways and not able to putt on these greens, they stand no chance at winning this tournament.

FedEx St. Jude Invitational Golfers
Before we get into who we like this week, we just want to say that this is one of the most stacked tournaments that we’ve seen this year. The Top 8 Players in the World Golf Rankings, Jon Rahm (No. 1), Rory McIlroy (No. 2), Justin Thomas (No. 3), Dustin Johnson (No. 4), Webb Simpson (No. 5), Brooks Koepka (No. 6), Bryson DeChambeau (No. 7) and Patrick Reed (No. 8), will all being playing this week and that means this is really a difficult tournament to wager on.
Jon Rahm +1200 for 2 Units
He is #1 in the world for a reason, because he is friggin hot this year! Jon Rahm has shown the talent and skill that we’ve all known he has, and is playing competitively in every tournament. The last time we saw him, he was winning the Memorial Tournament in dominating fashion. He took the past 2 weeks off and now returns to the WGC, which just so happens to be a tournament host that he has never won a tournament for. That all should change this week if he is on his game.
