Houston Open Overview

This week, we are looking at the Houston Open. The Houston Open has been around for a very long time, since 1946 to be exact, when Byron Nelson took home the crown.

The tournament is normally played each year in March or April in the State of Texas, but this year, with the switching of tournaments, we get this tournament as part of the shoulder season and it is played in October.

The Tournament has been sponsored by Shell Oil Company for the past 16 years but they ended their sponsorship 2-years ago and now the tournament is simply referred to as the Houston Open.

Golf Course of Houston at Redstone Details

The Golf Course of Houston at Redstone is the site of this years Houston Open.  This course is a Par 72 that plays at between 7400-7500 yards. There are four Par 3’s (that make up 832 yards) and four Par 5’s (that make up 2,321 yards).

You will read on various websites that the greens at Redstone mimic those of Augusta National…….WRONG!  They are not even the same type of grass and are completely opposite of each other for playing surface. Augusta National has undulated surfaces while the greens in Houston play as flat as glass!

Sure, they are both fast but that is the only similarity between the two.  The greens in Houston are made up of bermuda grass that have some bentgrass mixed in.

System Attributes

There are plenty of hazards on the course this week so accuracy is going to be a key factor.  I am putting a heavy emphasis on Ball Striking and also Strokes Gained: Tee To Green. The complete list of attributes that we will use this week are:

  • Recent Form
  • Ball Striking
  • Par 5 Scoring
  • Strokes Gained: Approach
  • Strokes Gained: Tee To Green
  • Strokes Gained: Putting

Houston Open Golfers

Daniel Berger +2200 at MyBookie for 2 Units

Our first golfer that we want to talk about is Daniel Beger at +2200. Berger comes in playing in great form, with a 18th place finish at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children Open, 23rd the week prior at the Safeway Open and a 39th at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship.  Berger plays very well in these lower level tournaments and I expect he will be competing for the win on Sunday here in Houston.

This week, we have 3 additional golfers but the only way to receive them is in our Spooky Express FREE Golf Newsletter. This golf newsletter is emailed out to all of our clients that are signed up, normally on Tuesday Evening, around dinner time.
