Welcome to the Spooky Express’s weekly golf breakdown, where we dive in head first to this week’s tournament and look for your best options for betting. In this week’s article, we will take a look at the course, course history, recent form and many other variables that we feel will have a bearing on the outcome of this week’s tournament. Without any further delay, let’s take a look at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
The pro’s of the PGA head to Detroit, Michigan this week for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The tournament will be played at the Detroit Golf Club and will take place from Thursday, July 1 until Sunday, July 4, 2021.
Rocket Mortgage Classic Tournament Details
Current Champion: Bryson Dechambeau
Dates: July 1-4, 2021
Prize Pool: $7,500,000
The Rocket Mortgage Classic will take place starting Thursday, July 1 and run for 4 consecutive days until Sunday, July 4, 2021 in Detroit, Michigan. The Rocket Mortgage Classic has been around only for two prior years, with it taking over the Quicken Loans National in Potomac, Maryland.
With this being only the 3rd year that the tournament has been played, there really isn’t a ton of information that you can use when handicapping this tournament other than the two prior dates in 2020 and 2019.
The tournament has a prize pool of $7.5 million dollars. The winner of this tournament will take home a check for roughly $1.35 Million Dollars.
The Rocket Mortgage Classic has a normal cut of the Top 70 plus ties.
The tournament will be played at Detroit Golf Club’s North Course in Detroit, Michigan. The north course was designed by Donald Ross and opened for play in 1916. The course recently underwent some upgrades and is now hosting a PGA Tour event.
The course measures 7,334 yards and plays as a Par 72. The greens at the Detroit Golf Club are made up of Poa Annua with a blend of bentgrass. There is plenty of undulation on both the greens and the fairways, which makes us think this will be a fairly difficult course for the pro’s this week. They are expecting the greens to run at a 12.5 on the stimpmeter, making them the equivalent of Augusta National.
The course itself is lined with trees, and the rough is expected to be cut to 3.5 inches. They will cut the rough on Monday and let it go from there. I would expect by late Saturday into Sunday, that rough will be very tough and penalizing.
Rocket Mortgage Classic System Attributes
Really tough this week to give attributes on what you should be looking at because this is only the 3rd time this tournament has been played. Sure, we can look at the past two years and take an educated guess by looking at the course but that can sometimes fool you. I think your better option this week is to pay close attention to the golfers in decent form. Go with the golfers that have had some recent success and are playing good overall golf. Take into consideration those that played well here in 2019 and 2020 and go from there.
Earl's Rocket Mortgage Classic Wagers
Before we give out plays out, we want to explain why we are only releasing 3 plays this week. With the way the odds are, I think you have to find a few golfers and throw multiple units on them to make any money in this tournament. Therefore, we are picking our top 3 out of 4 golfers and putting 2 units on each. We do like Bryson Dechambeau this week, he finished #1 in our overall rankings, however we are going to bypass him because of his single digit odds and roll with our 2, 3 and 4 golfers.
