PGA Championship Handicapping Preview & Pick

The PGA Championship is the next big name event on the PGA Tour calendar on Thursday, May 15 at Quail Hollow Golf and Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. MyBookie has PGA betting odds showing Scottie Scheffler favored to win with a moneyline at +425.

PGA Championship Betting Preview

The PGA Championship has an outstanding list of golfers attending this event. Many big names you do not get to see anymore on this rotation since they have joined other leagues (LIV) but will be in attendance here.

The winner of this event will likely be someone who is familiar with the layout, can make birdie putts (can get plenty of opportunities), and will need to score well in the teens. Last year, Xander Schauffele won with a final score of -21, but this event was played at Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky.

The last time this event was hosted at Quail Hollow was back in 2017 when Justin Thomas won with a final score of -8. A lot has changed then and many big name players have arguably improved tremendously since then.

Golfers That Could Win

There are an abundance of excellent golfers in this PGA Championship, making it difficult to narrow down which few could make the case for victory. Current form and recent stats at courses similar to this one make a good start. Below are a few selections to consider.

Scottie Scheffler +425

Scheffler, ranked first in the world golf rankings, loves nothing more than to be at a big event and to relish in victory over the other best golfers in the world. He is coming off a victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson where demolished the competition in a weaker field compared to this one with a final score of -31 (second place had -23).

While he is a good option no matter what tournament he plays at, a solid bet to make (potentially in a parlay) would be to add Scheffler to make the top 10 (or even top five with better odds). This would be a “safe” bet, but it is still worth looking at the field and seeing which golfers could bump him out the top 10.

Rory McIlroy +500

It will be fun to see Scheffler and McIlroy battle it out, along with other great names. McIlroy won the Masters (three strokes ahead of Scheffler and won a playoff against Justin Rose) and then had a T7 performance at the Truist Championship last week.

McIlroy has all the confidence in the world and no more pressure on him to win the Masters. This could be a newer, relaxed look for Rory as he now can focus on each event without that looming over him.

The best PGA Championship betting odds can be found through MyBookie, who currently has Scottie Scheffler favored to win. Despite the best two golfers mentioned above, the better value here is Bryson DeChambeau.

Bryson has a win recently at LIV Golf Korea and was second in the LIV Golf Mexico leading up to this event. He has also done well each time he comes back to the PGA and plays in majors, placing in the top six in the last four events. He not only kills it off the tee, but his short game should be fixed by the time the tournament starts.

Final Pick: Bryson DeChambeau +950
