PGA Tour Preview: Farmers Insurance Open

The 2025 edition of the Farmers Insurance Open will kick off on Wednesday, January 22 at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California. Plenty of exciting golfers will tee off here, with Ludvig Aberg the favorite to win in the field with a moneyline at +900 ay MyBookie.

Farmers Insurance Open Betting Preview

The average golfer will not be able to handle a course like Torrey Pines (South), as it is one of the more difficult courses on the PGA Tour calendar. It is a Par 72 and is a little over 7,760 yards.

The fairways are just one area golfers have to keep in mind, as they are narrow and have thick rough surrounding them. It also features smaller greens that are poa annua, which is best for golfers that are confident putters with a shorter backstroke and accelerate with their follow through.

As for the Torrey Pines North Course, golfers will get one opportunity in the rotation of the event to boost their score. This course is much easier, as it is a Par 72 that is just shy of 7,260 yards.

The fairways are wider here and the greens are longer, but also have bentgrass (easier to putt on for most PGA golfers, a little slower pace). Overall, the winners of this event in the past have shown long strikes off the tee, great with irons, and putting is imperative for success.

Golfers That Could Win

A lot of factors go into which golfers have the best chance of success. Of course, it makes sense to go with experience and a hot hand heading into this event. Below are some quality options to consider for victory.

Max Homa +3000

Homa was the champion of this event back in 2023 where he scored -13. He is currently ranked as the 48th-best golfer in the world. Coming into this event, he has a T14 and T26 in his prior two tournaments with solid form.

Sahith Theegala +2800

Theegala is a solid choice here that could make some noise. He is currently ranked as the 15th-best golfer in the world and has some positive momentum coming into this event.

He has a T36 and T37 over his last two events, and placed T64 here a year ago. But, he placed T4 here back in 2023 and has a solid opportunity to get back on the right track.

MyBookie has you set for the Farmers Insurance Open betting odds, which currently favor Ludvig Aberg. He is a respectable option here, especially with a T9 finish here a year ago.

Hideki Matsuyama stands out in this tournament, currently ranked fourth in the world and was T13 last year. He won The Sentry tournament earlier this month (where Aberg placed T5), and was T16 recently at the Sony Open.

Final Pick: Hideki Matsuyama +1100
