The Bald Eagle Derby Betting Preview – Saturday, July 24, 2021

by Spooky Express | July 23, 2021 |

The $100,000 Bald Eagle Derby is the second of nine races on Pimlico’s Saturday card. It will be run at a distance of a mile and a half on the turf and is open to three years olds with six entries in the field.

Betting Preview: Wootton Asset

On his first try, Wootton Asset was able to break his maiden in his native France and made his first start in the United States at Pimlico on October 3rd, finishing second in the Laurel Futurity (Black Type) by a nose. In his most recent outing, the colt came in third in the $150,000 Grade III Kent Stakes at Delaware Park on July 3rd, making a late stretch run as a 5/1 underdog in his fourth consecutive stakes start.

In eight career races, Wootton Asset has a record of 2-1-1 with earnings of $90,245. He starts from the fifth post position and is the slight morning-line favorite at odds of 8/5.

Betting Preview: Indian Lake

This gelding has been very active for a three-year-old, starting his tenth race of 2021 after finishing third in the $50,000 Sussex Stakes at Delaware Park on July 8th in his third start in a stakes contest. Indian Lake took six tries to break his maiden, finally succeeding at Parx Racing on November 24th in a maiden claiming race by four lengths as the 6/5 favorite.

His record in 16 starts is 4-7-4, and he has won $162,408. Indian Lake has morning line odds of 2/1 and drew the second starting spot.

Betting Preview: Experienced

Unlike his name, the gelding has just one career race under his belt, a victory in a maiden special weight race at Delaware Park on June 21st as the favorite at 9/5 odds by a nose after a strong drive to move from fourth place at the top of the stretch.

Experienced earned $22,800 for the win and will start from the outside post position with 5/2 morning line odds.

Betting Preview: Take Profit

Take Profit finished third in a starter optional claiming race at Delaware Park on July 12th in his last race, which followed a six-month layoff. He broke his maiden in his second attempt at Delaware Park on October 10th, then followed up with a third-place finish in the Central Park Stakes (Black Type) at Aqueduct on November 28th in his only stakes race start.

The three-year-old gelding has been entered in five races in his career, compiling a record of 1-0-2 with earnings of $42,570. Take Profit has morning line odds of 10/1 and drew the inside post position.

Betting Preview: Shackled Love

He was able to break his maiden in his first outing on October 7th at Delaware Park and has one other victory in the $100,000 Private Terms Stakes (Black Type) at Laurel Park on March 13th. The gelding’s last two starts have resulted in sixth place finishes, most recently in the $200,000 Grade III Chick Lang Stakes on the Preakness card on May 15th at Pimlico.

Shackled Love has winnings of $120,382 and a record of 2-2-0 in eight career races. He’ll start from the fourth post position with morning line odds of 12/1.

Free Betting Pick

Indian Lake appears to be a good bet at 2/1 odds, and a 2-6 exacta box with Experienced could also pay off nicely.
