Horse Racing Picks for Belmont Park – September 15, 2018
Saratoga season is over, the New York Racing Association now moves back to Belmont for the fall meet.
There will be some big weekends at some tracks across the country, but the next real big day is the Breeders Cup coming on the first weekend in November.
I will have some spot plays here and there leading up to Breeders Cup, but most of my write-ups will stay at Belmont Park.

MULTI STRATEGY – I tend to go with horses that are second time out in maiden races. This one is trained by Chad Brown and has Gaffalione in the saddle. Tired in debut, and I think second time out will help.
HEROIC ACTIVIST – Another second timeout horse who caught a yielding turf course at Saratoga. I think the firm course here at Belmont helps this horse a lot. Exotics more than win.
PAKHET – Johnny V/ Pletcher combo. Second time out beauty who was placed 5th after coming in second in career debut. Could be an easy winner.
Race 3 – another maiden race
COREY SCORE – Irad rides for Chad Brown. Second time out a horse who got third in career debut. Paid $315,000 for this one and expect a big improvement.
MIKES GIRL – Franco rides for Asmussen on the inner turf. Franco does very well with the inner turf and the tighter turns. Third career effort for this one who got second last out.
TRUMPIT – This is my long shot. Second time out with a solid 59 Beyer in debut. The horse had a bad break at the start in career debut and had to run 4 wide. She held her ground all the way. Better trip makes this one legit money threat.
Race 9 – THE SANDS POINT – Grade 2
SHADAN – Chad Brown/Franco on the inner turf. The horse has won two in a row. Making her, US debut and adds Lasix. Have to see if she travels well.
COLONIA – Jersey Joe Bravo rides this one. The third start in the US, the first race was a win; second race was a 5th place at Delmar. Had a bad start and horses who have never trained at Delmar do not seem to do well there. I think this one gets back on track on the Belmont turf. Bravo never quits!
CALIFORNIAGOLDRUSH – Neil Drysdale had Pratt on board for this one. Came in third in the Delmar oaks. They did not ship this horse cross country to not make money. Three starts, two wins and third.
Good luck and thanks for horseracing with Dietz!
