Caress Stakes from Saratoga Betting Preview and FREE PLAY- Saturday, August 1, 2020

The $200,000 Caress Stakes will run as Race 12 on the Aug. 1 card at Saratoga.

The event for 4-year-old and up fillies and mares is set to include names like Dalika and I’llhandalthecash among the field 10. It will cover 5 1/2 furlongs on turf. 

Here is a look at the top runners set for the Caress Stakes.

Dalika, I’llhandalthecash 

The favorite coming in with a morning line at 3/1 is Bel Mar Equine’s Dalika. Trained by Albert Stall, Jr., the 4-year-old daughter of Pastorius has a career record of 3-4-0 from 12 starts and earnings of $178,015. 

The filly has one victory and one second from two starts in 2020. She finished second in the July 3 License Fee Stakes at Belmont Park. She also took a May 21 allowance optional claiming race at Churchill Downs. To close out her 2019 season, Dalika finished fourth in the Dev. 28 Pago Hop Stakes (Black Type) at Fair Grounds. 

She will break from post 7 under jockey Joel Rosario.

The second-choice with a morning line at 4/1 is VinLaur Racing Stables, Dark Horse Racing Stable, and Taste of Victory Stables’ I’ll handalthecash. 

Trained by Raymond Handal, the 4-year-old daughter of Point of Entry is 3-1-1 from nine career starts with earnings of $174,532. Her 2020 record includes one win and one third from three starts.

Her last performance was a victory in the July 3 License Fee Stakes at Belmont Park. The filly also took third in a May 30 allowance optional claiming race at Churchill and sixth in the March 7 Captiva Island Stakes (Black Type) at Gulfstream.

I’llhandalthecash will break from post 2 Jose Ortiz. 


Another top runner coming in with a morning line at 9/2 is Cheyenne Stables’ Cariba. The 4-year-old daughter of Cairo Prince trained by Christophe Clement has a career record of 2-3-0 from seven starts with earnings of $106,750.

She finished first last time out in a June 28 allowance race at Belmont Park. The filly also finished second in an April 19 allowance optional claiming race and second in a March 7 allowance race, both at Gulfstream Park.

Cariba will break from post 9 under Irad Ortiz, Jr. 

The rest of the field (post, morning line) is set to include: Getmotherarose (post 1, 12/1); Sweet Bye and Bye (post 3, 6/1); Introduced (post 4, 10/1); Jakarta (post 5, 10/1); Mother Mother (post 6, 8/1); Saratoga Treasure (post 8, 15/1); and Miss Gossip (post 10, 12/1).
