The Grade III, $100,000 Chilukki Stakes will run as Race 9 on the November 21 card at Churchill Downs.
The event for 3-year-old and up fillies and mares will cover one mile and include names like Finite, Grand Cru Classe, and Whoa Nellie among the field of nine.
Here is a look at the top runners set for the Chilukki Stakes.
Betting Preview: Finite, Grand Cru Classe
The morning-line favorite coming in at 8/5 is Finite, owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds, Thomas Reiman, William Dickson, and Debroah Easter. The 3-year-old Munnings filly is trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen.
She has a career record of 5-3-0 from 10 starts and earnings of $698,349. In 2020, she has two wins and one second from five outings.
Last time out, she took second in the October 17 Lexus Raven Run Stakes (G2) at Keeneland. The filly also finished fourth in the March 21 Twinspires.com Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) at Fair Grounds. Her victories came in the February 15 Rachel Alexandra S. presented by Fasig-Tipton (G2) and the January 18 Silverbulletday Stakes also at Fair Grounds.
Finite will break from Post 2 under jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr.
She will be up against Speedway Stable’s Grand Cru Classe, coming in at 5/2. The 3-year-old Bernardini filly is trained by William Mott, another Hall of Famer.
She is 3-0-1 from four career starts and has earnings of $140,300. All of her starts have come in 2020.
Her most recent performance was a third-place run in the Lexus Raven, which followed a victory in the September 7 Weber City Miss Stakes (Black Type) at Laurel Park. She also scored an allowance race on September 9 at Belmont and a maiden special weight race on May 24 at Gulfstream.
Grand Cru Classe will break from Post 3 under rider Tyler Gaffalione.
Betting Preview: Whoa Nellie
Another entrant to keep an eye on is Fox Hill Farms’ Whoa Nellie, coming in at 4/1. The 4-year-old Orb filly is trained by J. Larry Jones.
She is 5-2-2 from 10 career starts with earnings of $296,230. Her 2020 performances include one win and one second from two outings.
The filly is coming off a runner-up effort in the February 17 Bayakoa Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park, which followed her win in the January 25 Pippin Stakes also at the track. The latter resulted in a 100 Speed Figure.
Whoa Nellie will break from Post 4 under Joseph Rocco, Jr.
The rest of the field (post, morning line) is set to include:
- New Roo (Post 1, 20/1).
- Gold Standard (Post 5, 15/1).
- Risky Mandate (Post 6, 5/1).
- Crazy Sexy Munny (Post 7, 50/1).
- Unique Factor (Post 8, 10/1).
- Sanenus (Post 9, 20/1).

Grand Cru Classe at 5/2 can overcome the favorite in this one. She has a strong pedigree and is trained by a Hall of Famer in Mott. She finished second behind Finite in the pair’s most recent outing, so she just needs to get ahead in this one.
