Horse Racing Picks for Fair Grounds Race Course – Saturday, March 23, 2019
Fair Grounds Race Course – Saturday, 3/23/19
Today we are back at Fairgrounds. We have some good racing going on today with the big race being the Louisiana Derby.
Home track jockey is Flourent Geroux who excels on turf. Corey Lanarie does well on both surfaces, but his “go to” trainer used to be Dale Romans. They no longer ride together and don’t know why.
Home track trainer is Brad Cox and Steve Asmussen and Tom Amoss. Amoss and James Graham do well together.
Let’s get started…..
ALLONGE– Second time out horse who will be closing late. Joe Bravo rides. Nice solid works 19/121 and 19/48. Must use in all wagers.
GOLD STANDARD– Brad Cox/Irad Ortiz. Paid 1.2 million for this baby. Bullet work 1/121. Must use.
TEMPLE CITY TERROR– Third race of the form cycle. Decent 62 Beyer last out. Bred for turf. Deep exotics only.
MEGHAN- maiden horse out of Tapit. Tapits tend to do better second time out, but Graham rides. Deep exotics at a price.
Race 10 – THE NEW ORLEANS HANDICAP – Gr. 2
LONE SAILOR- Tom Amoss beauty who is 4/4 in money at distance. Can’t ignore.
MR.BUFF – the horse is stepping up in class, but won 4 in a row with Beyers going up nicely, he produces more off the 102 effort last out and we have a winner at a price.
SOUPER TAPIT– Gaffalione rides for Marc Casse. The horse is stepping up, but he is a closer who should get a decent pace to close into. Closed 3 back to win by 9. Exotics.
Race 11 – THE MUNIZ MEMORIAL -Gr.2 turf
DIVIDERSO- Flourent Geroux on turf. Horse will be closing late and is 5 of 6 in money at distance.
BRICKS AND MORTAR– Chad Brown beauty who is third race of form cycle. We won with this horse on Pegasus Cup day and I expect this one to be prime racing form. WINNER!
INSPECTOR LYNLEY– another deep closer who gets Jose Ortiz in the saddle. The trainer had this one prime last out winning Grade 3 Tampa Bay. Use in exotics.
RACE 12 – THE OAKS- Grade 2
SERENGETI EMPRESS– Most likely favorite with Graham/Amoss combo. Horse won easily last out going wire to wire. This is second off the layoff and she should be ready even more.
ERES TU– was blown away against the horse prior last out. She will be coming late hoping someone burns out the EMPRESS horse. Exotics only.
LIORA- – tried to hang with the EMPRESS last race and was toyed with. She got second, but one can dream. Exotics only.
Race 13 – THE LOUSIANA DERBY
WAR OF WILL– Casse/Gaffalione combo. Winner of 3 in a row, 2/2 on the track. On paper, he looks tough to beat, but I am skeptical.
COUNTRY HOUSE– Bill Mott is having a sneaky good spring. He brings in this horse who has been progressing nicely and has a nice closing kick. The favorite will have the speed to deal with, and this one could catch up. Legit threat.
SPINOFF– Pletcher/Johnny combo who are second off the layoff with a 84 last out. He won by 11 lengths last outgoing wire to wire. Can’t ignore his combo.
HOG HUSTLE CREEK– Deep closer for a jockey who is not known to most, but he is sneaky good at Fairgrounds. Use to fill out deep exotics.
Good luck and thanks for horse racing with Dietz!
