The Goldikova Stakes Preview and Free Betting Pick – Saturday, November 6, 2021

by Spooky Express | November 3, 2021 |

The Grade II Goldikova Stakes will be as Race 3 of a scheduled 12-race card going to post at 11:25 am (PT). Nine horses are entered to run for the $300,000 purse. This race is restricted to fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upwards and will be run on the turf course. The distance for the Goldikova Stakes will be 1 mile (8 furlongs).

The weather for this day’s events is forecasted to be 67 degrees with mostly sunny skies. During the Summer meet at Del Mar, where the turf meets the surf, the turf course in route races favored horses coming from off the pace, except the final weekend where a few more front runners could get home. Of the contenders today, we will highlight 4.

Betting Preview: (2) Princess Grace

(2) Princess Grace has traveled the country this past year, and all she does is win. She has four graded stakes in a row, including maybe the most impressive victory in the Summer Meet at Del Mar in the Grade II Yellow Ribbon Handicap.

She likes to sit mid-pack and make a big move while in the final turn. Jockey Kent Desormeaux will get the nod over Florent Geroux even though Florent has ridden her in 2 of her last four victories.

Betting Preview: (7) Going Global

Since coming to America, (7) Going Global has been on fire, winning 5 of 6 of her North American races. From a speed figure standpoint, her best races are on par with the best races of any horse in this field.

This three-year-old filly also retains the services of the top jockey in Southern California, Flavien Prat. The only concern is that she has only raced against 3-year-olds, so that she will be facing a saltier bunch.

Betting Preview: (1) Zofelle

In general, I am very wary of backing a horse that is coming off a layoff. It has been about five months since (1) Zofelle ran last, but that does not worry me.

The last time she came off of an extended layoff, she fired her best race of her career in the Marshua’s River Stakes at Gulfstream Park. She will have tons of help from the saddle with one of the top turf riders in the country, Tyler Gaffalione.

Betting Preview: (4) Glesga Gal

When you are trying to put together a ticket for a turf route race, leave first-time European horses off of your ticket at your peril. There is a definite concern that they might not be fresh after the long trip to Southern California.

However, some horses that seem to be middle of the road in Europe love the firm turf here in America and fire the first time out. I don’t feel good betting her, but I would lose sleep leaving her off the ticket. Jockey Florent Geroux is an excellent turf rider.
