by Spooky Express | July 23, 2021 |

The $75,000 Monroe Stakes is the 10th of 12 races on Saturday’s card at Gulfstream Park. The mile and a sixteenth contest on the turf is open to fillies and mares three years old and up with 10 entries, with four others who will take part if the race is moved to the main track.

Betting Preview: Shifty She

Shifty She has won her last two races, the first stakes events for the five-year-old who did not enter any contests in 2020 and returned to action with a fourth-place finish in an allowance optional claiming race on April 9th. Her most recent victory was in the Ginger Punch Stakes (Black Type) at Gulfstream on June 12th, going wire to wire and winning by half a length as the 9/10 favorite at a mile and a sixteenth.

The five-year-old mare has a record of 5-0-0 in seven starts with winnings of $174,995. Shifty She drew the third post position and is the strong morning line favorite at 7/5.

Betting Preview: Lovely Luvy

This five-year-old mare is coming off a third-place performance in the Ginger Punch Stakes, finishing a length and a quarter behind winner Shifty She as a 12/1 underdog. It’s been over a year since her most recent win in an allowance optional claiming race at Gulfstream Park on June 28, 2020, by half a length as the second favorite at 2/1 odds.

With earnings of $205,518 in 25 career outings, Lovely Luvy has a mark of 3-5-9. She has morning line odds of 9/2 and will start from post position two.

Betting Preview: Mo of the West

Mo of the West also ran in the Ginger Punch, running in fifth place well off the pace, finishing six lengths behind the fourth-place finisher as the third favorite in the odds at 7/2. The Four-year-old filly last won a race six entries ago in an allowance optional claiming race on September 27th at Gulfstream, winning by a length and three quarters after a strong stretch run.

In 11 career starts, Mo of the West has a record of 3-1-1 and has earned $117,435. With an eighth post position, she has morning line odds of 6/1.

Betting Preview: Drapes

Drapes didn’t break her maiden until April 18th at Tampa Bay after failing to run a race as a three-year-old after running one juvenile contest, finishing tenth at the Fair Grounds in a maiden special weight race on November 30, 2019. The four-year-old filly is coming off a runner-up finish in an allowance claiming race at Gulfstream on June 20th, and her last win was in the same class of event at Gulfstream on May 28th.

In just four races, Drapes has a career record of 2-1-0 and has earned $53,180 for her connections. Drapes drew the ninth post position and has odds of 8/1 in the morning line.

Free Betting Pick

Shifty She is a legitimate favorite, and a good exacta box wager is to pair her with Drapes for a 3-9 bet.
