Horse Racing Picks for Oaklawn for Saturday, March 16, 2019
Oaklawn Park is running today with the Rebel Stakes.
This is a Grade 2 level race with Kentucky Derby points on the line.
Do not be confused if you see two REBEL STAKES races on the card, one being race 8 and another for race 10.
The closing of Santa Anita has left a gap in the qualifying races for the Kentucky Derby.
The Rebel Stakes had so many entries trying to qualify that they split the race into two races.
Each winner will receive 37.5 points to the Derby points rather than the 50 points to the winner.
I won’t guarantee anything, nothing is a lock in horse racing and gambling, but I will be shocked if these three things do not happen on today’s card; Steve Asmussen wins a race, Brad Cox wins a race and Bob Baffert wins a race. Just need to figure out when.
Let us take a look……..
Race 7 – THE AZERI – Grade 2
MIDNIGHT BISOU – Steve Asmussen/Mike Smith combo. Class of the field for this horse. She is a beauty. Bullet work, 1/54 two back. She will be tough to beat, but she will have competition.
ELATE – Bill Mott/Jose Ortiz. Coming in second off the layoff and produced a whopping 105 Beyer last out, but still got second to ABEL TASMAN. This is two horse race.
Race 8 – THE REBEL STAKES – Grade 2 (part 1)
LONG RANGE TODDY – This horse is going up and up in numbers. He will be on the lead or close to it looking to close. Has a second and third on this track and Asmussen trains. Exotics.
CLASSY JOHN – Only reason I am taking this horse is Dallas Stewart, “King of the Longshots”. No way this horse wins, but worth a shot in deep exotics.
IMPROBABLE – Bob Baffert brings in this monster. This horse has numbers that are far superior to any other horse in here (85, 93, and 96). Look out.
GALILEAN – Hollendorfer trained horse. Paid $600,000 for this one who has won 3 of 4 career races. My concern is, against who? The horse prior beat his 1 1/16 mile time by almost 2 seconds.
Race 10 – THE REBEL STAKE – Grade 2 (part 2)
GAME WINNER – This horse has been on the derby watch list for some time. Baffert trained horse with Rosario in the saddle. As good as they say this horse is, I think he will be in for a battle.
OMAHA BEACH – this horse has run in only maiden races. Broke his maiden in the slop no less last time out. He will be over bet.
OUR BRAINTRUST – Mark Casse horse who has some interesting numbers. They keep going up just as you want with a nice 95 Beyer last out in a grade 3 race. That was his first around 2 turns. Legit shot to win at a nice price.
GUNMETAL GRAY – Another horse that has been on the derby radar. Has lost to GAME WINNER twice rather easily. Exotics only.
Good luck and thanks for horse racing with Dietz!
