The Grade III, $100,000 Red Smith Stakes will run as Race 9 on the November 21 card at Aqueduct.
The event for 3-year-olds and up will cover 1 3/8 miles on turf and include names like Sadler’s Joy, Red Knight, and Ziyad among the field of 11.

Betting Preview: Sadler’s Joy, Red Knight
Woodslane Farm’s Sadler’s Joy will be looking for his second straight Red Smith victory, coming into this edition at 8/5. The 7-year-old son of Kitten’s Joy is trained by Thomas Albertrani.
He has a career record of 7-4-11 from 33 starts and earnings of $2,648,160. In 2020, he has four third-place runs from seven outings.
He finished third last time out in the October 3 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes (G1) at Belmont, where he registered a 110 Speed Figure. He also finished fourth in the August 29 Sword Dancer Stakes (G1) at Saratoga, third in the July 4 Manhattan Stakes (G1) a Belmont, and third in the June 4 Tiller Stakes (Black Type) also at Belmont.
Sadler’s Joy will break from Post 4 under jockey Joel Rosario.
One of his biggest challenges will come in the form of the 5/2 Red Knight, owned by Trinity Farm. The 6-year-old gelding from Pure Prize is trained by Hall of Famer William Mott.
He is 8-6-1 from 21 career starts with earnings of $732,158. In 2020, he has one win and one second from three outings.
His most recent run was a victory in the October 15 Sycamore Stakes (G3) at Keeneland, where he registered a 107 Speed Figure. He also took second in the September 12 Calumet Farm Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes (G3) at Kentucky Downs and fourth in the January 25 W. L. McKnight Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream.
Red Knight will break from Post 10 under rider Jose Ortiz.
Betting Preview: Ziyad
Another impressive entrant among the field is the 9/2 Ziyad, owned by Wetheimer and Frere. The 5-year-old gelding from Rock of Gibraltar is trained by H. Graham Motion.
He is 6-6-6 from 23 career starts with earnings of $569,592. In 2020, he has one win and three thirds from six outings.
He is coming off a third-place finish in the October 15 Sycamore Stakes (G3) at Keeneland, where he registered a 105 Speed Figure. His victory came in a March 3 allowance race at Chantilly.
Ziyad will break from Post 8 under Manuel Franco.
