The Grade 3, $100,000 Royal Delta Stakes will run as Race 11 on the Feb. 20 card at Gulfstream Park.
The event for 4-year-olds and up covers 1 1/16 miles and is set to include names like Eres Tu, Mrs. Danvers, and Bajan Girl among the field of eight.
Here is a look at the top runners set for the Royal Delta Stakes:
Betting Preview: Eres Tu, Mrs. Danvers
One of the leading names among the field is Edward Seltzer and Beverly Anderson’s Eres Tu. The 5-year-old mare from Malibu Moon is trained by Arnaud Delacour.
She has a career record of 4-1-1 from nine starts and earnings of $286,227. The runner will make her first 2021 start in the Royal Delta.
Last time out, she scored the Dec. 25 Allaire DuPont Stakes (G3) at Laurel Park. She also won the Nov. 28 Thirty Eight Go Go Stakes (Black Type) at the track, where she registered a 105 Speed Figure. Her other performance of 2020 was an allowance victory on Oct. 14 at Keeneland.
Eres Tu will break from post 3 under rider Irad Ortiz, Jr.
One of her biggest challengers will be Allen Stable’s Mrs. Danvers. The 4-year-old Tapit filly is trained by Claude R. McGaughey III.
She is 3-3-1 from eight career starts with earnings of $211,800.
Her most recent performance came all the way back on Nov. 27 when she won the Comely Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct, registering a 108 Speed Figure. Prior to that, she took an Oct. 25 allowance race and finished second in another on Sept. 27 at Belmont Park. The runner also took fifth in the Aug. 8 Longines Test Stakes (G1) at Saratoga.
Mrs. Danvers will break from post 7 under rider Jose Ortiz.
Betting Preview: Bajan Girl
Another runner to look out for is Robert Slack and Daniel Walters’ Bajan Girl. The 4-year-old Speightstown filly is trained by Rohan Crichton.
She is 3-0-1 from eight career starts with earnings of $91,670. The runner is also making her first 2021 start in the race.
She closed out her 2020 season with a third-place finish in the Dec. 12 Rampart Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park. The filly scored a Nov. 4 allowance optional claiming race at Gulfstream Park West, registering a 116 Speed Figure, and she took fourth in the Mar. 28 Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) at Gulfstream Park.
Bajan Girl will break from post 6 under rider Junior Alvarado.
The rest of the field (post, jockey) is set to include: High Regard (post 1, J. Castellano); Gibberish (post 2, T. Gaffalione); Dream Marie (post 4, L. Reyes); Queen Nekia (post 5, C. J. Lanerie); and Hallawallah (post 8, E. J. Zayas).
Free Betting Pick
Mrs. Danvers is a good pick in this one. The daughter of Tapit is trained by a Hall of Famer and performed impressively last time out going nine furlongs. She will likely have blinkers on for the Royal Delta, which helped her previously. The question will be how she can handle Gulfstream Park, as it will be the runner’s first time at the track.
