Horse Racing Picks by Stogie for Saturday, April 4, 2020

by Ken Stogie | April 3, 2020 |

Oaklawn Park Race 8

  • #5 Answer In- I didn’t care for the impatient ride by Castellano on this Gelding last out, but this Kentucky Bred still managed to finish 3rd behind 2 very good horses in the G3 Southwest, look for Talamo to handle this one better today, looks like a good spot for this Brad Cox runner, Top Choice
  • #1 Finnick the Fierce- shipper from Fair Grounds would benefit if the track comes up wet  which might be the case Saturday with Thunderstorms in the forecast, love this one’s run 3 back in the slop at Churchill , finished second to a very good runner a Silver Prospector by less than a length, this is a much easier group of animals than he has faced in the last 3 races, Win Contender
  • #6 Winning Impression- has been training well for Dallas Stewart and is another in here who would prefer an off track, don’t overlook

Selections 5-1-6-7

Oaklawn Park Race 9 Purple Martin Stakes

  • #1 Kimari- this Race is loaded with early speed so I’ll take this closer trained by Wesley Ward, Filly was last seen back in November in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, finished a fast closing 4 th beaten by 2 . This gal’s lone dirt start was a romping Maiden breaking win at Keeneland by 15 lengths, then for some unknown reason the connections decided to run her on the Turf, the Layoff does concern me a bit, but this a Filly has looked sharp in the mornings and Money Mike Smith gets the mount, Win Contender
  • #6 Lexi On the Move- unbeaten Filly moves up in class after winning her first two races, her dirt speed figures suggest she can hang with these and if she moves forward off last , she could possibly take this event, she has shown tactical speed in her limited races and should be sitting right off the front runners, Win Contender
  • #8 Frank’s Rockette- likely favorite will have a bit of company on the front end which might take a little bit of muster out of this one early, this talented daughter out of Into Mischief might prove me wrong and take this race today, I’ll try to beat her today, use underneath

Selections 1-6-8-9

Gulfstream Park Race 10

  • #4 Dr. Shane- After being left at the gate last out in a Stakes here at GP, Gelding lost any chance at victory , this NY Bred’s Trainer is hitting at 34% winners and this one’s Turf speed figures are strong, I expect a solid run today, Win Contender
  • #5 Main Ty One On- very consistent runner who has finished in the money 18 times in 25 lifetime starts, Gelding is 5-6 in the money here at GP with 2 wins, sports recent 1/46 bullet, Live Longshot
  • #11 Halladay- Pletcher/ Saez combo has been on fire of late, lone turf try here at GP resulted in a wire to wire win in the Tropical Park Derby, I don’t think that will be the strategy today, should lay second flight, Major Player
  • #3 First Premio- has a Class edge versus these, but hasn’t seen race day in over 6 months, might need a race, use with caution

Selections 4-5-11-3

Gulfstream Park Race 11

  • #1 Tomcat Black – Graham Motion Trained Colt recently broke Maiden at Tampa while routing last race, cuts back  to 7 furlongs today. Colt has never finished worse than 3 lengths behind at the wire in 5 Career Starts, Colt will likely sit off a hot early pace and has a shot for the upset if he can move forward off last, Win Contender
  • #3 I’ll Fight Dempsey- Impressive winner in debut for Trainer Todd Pletcher right here at GP with a strong speed figure , has been working like a beast since, should be tough to get by today, Win Contender
  • #7 Masterday- overmatched in the G2 Fountain of Youth last out , but I do like this Colt’s run two back ,finished second to a decent horse in NY Traffic, I believe he gets ignored at the windows, so I’ll use this Longshot to round out the exotics , Upset Potential

Selections 1-3-7-4

Most Likely Winner – Oaklawn Park Race 8 #5 Answer In

Longshot Play – Gulfstream Park Race 10 #5 Main Ty One On
