Horse Racing Picks for Tampa Bay Downs – Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019
Going to try Tampa Bay Downs today.
They have a Derby Prep race going and some good horses on the undercard to look at.
This is a deeper turf course, prefer closers on this track.
TROPHY DOLL- numbers increase steadily just as you would like, 59,65,74. Any improvement off the last race and this one has a shot. Exotics for sure.
MIKI- We bet this horse at Saratoga. This is the first race off the claim where the trainer hits at 29%. Must consider.
BARREL OF DESTINY- second time out after barn change. Solid 73 Beyer last out getting third. Use in exotics at a price.
UMETUKA- warning! This horse will take money because of Jose Ortiz in the saddle. This is a maiden winner going up against experienced horses. Don’t be fooled.
Race 8 – THE TAMPA BAY – Grade 3
INSPECTOR LINLEY- monster closer for Sug McGaughey. Jose rides and this one will be set up perfectly for a late run. Use in all wagers.
QURBAAN- “Jersey” Joe Bravo rides for McLaughlin. Bravo always gives an honest effort and this horse will be closing late as well.
HEART TO HEART- we bet this horse at Saratoga and lost. Something went wrong in that race and they put this one in the shelf for a few months, came back in January and hit a decent 91 Beyer. He runs back to form he will be in the money. Hope he is healthy.
Race 10- THE LAMBHOLM SOUTH ENDEAVOR- Grade 3
To me, this is a two horse race (last two I list)
HAWKSMOOR- Castellano rides for Delacour. We bet this horse at Saratoga twice getting in the money on one. Comes in off the layoff and should be fresh. The concern is he gets into a speed duel and on this deep turf, he will be in trouble holding the distance.
RYMSKA- Jose Ortiz rides for Chad Brown. This one will be closing late and of course, we have the Chad Brown factor. Probable favorite.
GET EXPLICIT- The other closer in here gets the nod to be in the money. Must use in all exotics.
Race 11 – SAM F. DAVIS – Grade 3
Dirt race, Derby points on the line. This race belongs to Todd Pletcher having won it 9 times.
SO ALIVE – Pletcher/Castellano together. Can’t ignore. Bullet work 1/37 coming in.
KENTUCKY WILDCAT- Joe Bravo rides for Albertrani. Numbers increase just as you want, 54,77,86. Major threat. Out of Tapit and owned by Godolphin stables.
COUNTER OFFER- Gallardo rides. He is the hometown jockey. He will make an effort for sure. This horse is not bad. He will be closing late. Not a winner, but use in deep exotics.
Good luck and thanks for horseracing with Dietz!
