The Breeders’ Cup Classic Betting Preview and Free Pick – Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021

by Spooky Express | November 3, 2021 |

The biggest race of the year is finally here! The Breeder’s Cup Classic will take place as Race 12 of a scheduled 12-race card going to post at 5:40 pm (PT). Nine horses will be running for the $6,000,000 purse. This race is restricted to three-year-olds and upwards and will be run on the main dirt surface. The distance for the Breeder’s Cup Classic will be 1 ¼ miles.

The weather for this day’s events looks as perfect as ever. Typical running styles that win over this track in recent history are those who can stay near the front pace. Of the contenders today, we will be highlighting four probable contenders. Boy, does the racing world really not want someone to win this race…

Betting Preview: (3) Hot Rod Charlie

Their recent race history suggests this horse is finally turning the corner with back-to-back Grade 1 wins. Jockey Flavien Prat is the hottest jockey this side of the Mississippi. Trainer Doug O’Neill has always thought this horse was primed for greatness.

Their running style is that of a pacer. Workout times are interesting as they are a bit slow but they’ve been working this horse over 6 or 7 furlongs. Morning line odds are 4/1. Their history on this track isn’t great but they were two when they were last here. Getting the distance shouldn’t be a problem after their second in the Belmont. If this horse floats up to 6/1, they’d be the value play.

Betting Preview: (4) Essential Quality

Their recent race history suggests the only defeat they ever had was in the muddled Kentucky Derby. Jockey Luis Saez was red hot earlier this year but has cooled back down to Earth. Trainer Brad Cox is winning at 27% this year and has this horse primed. Their running style is that of a pacer. Workout times are just ok coming in. Morning line odds are 3/1.

Their history at the distance is what needs to be called out as they won their most recent start going this far. This is the best 3 year old in the country facing older horses for the first time. I like their chances! This horse is a beast. Sure they never win by a lot but if they are even with a horse, he is leaving.

Betting Preview: (5) Knicks Go

Their recent race history suggests that when this horse is on, he’s the best older dirt horse in America. Jockey Joel Rosario is winning all over the country. Trainer Brad Cox is winning at a high clip. Their running style is all speed all the time. Workout times are fine coming in.

Morning line odds are 5/2. Their history on this track and at this distance is non-existent. Their experience, in general, says they are great but can they handle the extra distance is the big question.

Betting Preview: (8) Medina Spirit

Their recent race history suggests that the break from Preakness to late summer was smart. Jockey John Velasquez is primed to continue his winning streak at the Breeders’ Cup. Trainer Bob Baffert is winning at 31% for the year. Their running style is that of a speedster. Workout times are average coming in. Morning line odds are 4/1.

Their history on this track is a perfect one-for-one. Their history at the distance is also one for one. Putting the Kentucky Derby win aside, this horse does seem to be a solid runner. Never mind the noise around this horse, I’ll be playing it underneath.
