The $65,000 Forego Stakes will run as Race 5 on the Jan. 15 card at Turfway Park.
The event for 4-year-olds and up will cover 6 1/2 furlongs on the all-weather track and include names like Lookin to Strike, Guildsman, and Bango among the field of 13.
Here is a look at the top runners set for the Forego Stakes.
Betting Preview: Lookin to Strike, Guildsman
One of the top runners among the field is Gary Barber’s Lookin to Strike. The 6-year-old gelding from Lookin at Lucky is trained by Mark E. Casse.
He has a career record of 6-2-1 from 20 starts and earnings of $268,871.
His most recent performance was a fourth-place run in the Dec. 19 Richard R. Scherer Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds, where he registered a 101 Speed Figure. He also took third in a Sept. 27 allowance race and first in a Sept. 6 allowance optional claiming race at Woodbine.
Lookin to Strike will break from post 5 under jockey Rafael Manuel Hernandez.
He will be up against Qatar Racing’s Guildsman. The 4-year-old gelding from Wootton Bassett is trained by Brendan Walsh.
He is 3-1-3 from 13 career starts with earnings of $259,179.
Last time out, Guildsman finished back in ninth in the Dec. 19 Richard R. Scherer. His other performances include a fifth-place run in the Oct. 18 Nearctic Stakes (G2) at Woodbine, first in the Sept. 16 Franklin-Simpson Stakes (G3) at Kentucky Downs, and first in the Aug. 10 Tom Ridge Stakes at Presque Isle Downs.
Guildsman will break from post 3 under rider Rafael Bejarano.
Betting Preview: Bango
Another runner to pay attention to is Tamaroak Partners’ Bango. The 4-year-old Congrats colt is trained by Gregory Foley.
He is 5-1-1 from 12 career starts with earnings of $287,557.
The colt scored a Nov. 26 allowance optional claiming race last time out at Churchill Downs, registering an impressive 114 Speed Figure. He also finished fourth in the Nov. 7 Perryville Stakes at Keeneland, first in another allowance optional claiming race at Churchill on Sept. 27, and sixth in the Aug. 10 Tom Ridge Stakes at Presque Isle Downs.
Bango will break from post 2 under rider Gerardo Corrales.
The rest of the field (post, jockey) is set to include: What’s Up Dude (Post 1, C. Landeres); Escapade (Post 4, A. Jimenez); Made in America (Post 6, D. Cannon); Hurricane Highway (Post 7, E. Esquivel); Fast Fire (Post 8, A. L. Canchari); Dabo (Post 9, D. L. Parker); Awesome Gent (Post 10, J. D. Ramos); Frosted Ice (Post 11, J. McKee); Unmoored (Post 12, J. V. This race is set to have a big field, so it can go many ways. Look for Qatar Racing’s Guildsman to run well. The 4-year-old is coming off a disappointing ninth-place run in the Richard R. Scherer, but he won two stakes outings a few starts prior. Guildsman has more stakes-running experience than the other top runners.
