The Minnesota Turf Distaff from Canterbury Park Betting Preview – Wednesday, July 1, 2020

The $50,000 Minnesota Turf Distaff Stakes is set as Race 5 on the July 1 card at Canterbury Park.

The event for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward which are Minnesota breds will cover 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf.

The field of 8 is being led by Ready to Runaway and Honey’s Sox Appeal. Here is a look at the rest of the contenders for the Minnesota Turf Distaff Stakes.

Ready to Runaway, Honey’s Sox Appeal

The favorite coming into the race is Ready to Runaway at 8/5.

Owned by John Mentz and trained by McLean Robertson, the 4-year-old daughter of First Dude has a record of 6-3-3 from 12 career starts and earnings of $241,430.

The filly scored the June 17 Lady Slipper Stakes last time out at Canterbury Park. Prior to that performance, she finished third in an April 25 allowance race and a March 28 starter allowance at Oaklawn Park, registering a 100 Speed Figure in both races.

Ready to Runaway will break from post 3 under Alex Canchari.

Honey’s Sox Appeal will look to challenge the favorite, coming in at 7/2.

The 7-year-old mare from Successful Appeal is owned by Robert Lindgren and trained by McLean Robertson.

She has a record of 10-8-3 from 27 career starts and earnings of $407,173.

The mare’s last performance was a fourth-place effort in the June 17 Lady Slipper Stakes at Canterbury Park. She also finished seventh in an April 18 allowance optional claiming at Oaklawn and second in the Sept. 1 Bella Notte Minnesota Distaff Sprint Championship Stakes at Canterbury.

Honey’s Sox Appeal will break from post 9 under Francisco Arrieta.

Maywood Hope

Another top runner in the field is Winchester Place Thoroughbreds’ Maywood Hope. The 5-year-old mare from Strong Hope is trained by Tony Rengstorf.

She has a career record of 4-4-3 from 14 starts and earnings of $142,000.

Maywood Hope’s last race was a victory in a June 17 allowance optional claiming at Canterbury. She also finished third in the Sept. 1 Glitter Star Minnesota Distaff Classic Championship Stakes at the track.

Maywood Hope will break from post 8 under Jareth Loveberry.

The rest of the field (post, morning line) will include: Clickbait (post 1, 6.1); First Hunter (post 4, 15/1); Firstmate (post 5, 15/1); Carriage (post 6, 15/1); and Ari Gia (post 7, 8/1).
