by Cole Paganelli | June 28, 2020 |

The $50,000 Ralph Strangis Stakes is set as Race 6 on the July 1 card at Canterbury Park.

The event for three-year-olds and upward will cover 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf.

The field of 9 is being led by Hot Shot Kid and Mr Jagermeister. Here is a look at the rest of the contenders for the Ralph Strangis Stakes.

Hot Shot Kid, Mr Jagermeister

The favorite coming in at 8/5 is Warren Bush’s Hot Shot Kid. Trained by McLean Robertson, he has a record of 14-7-1 from 30 career starts and earnings of $575,404.

The 6-year-old gelding son of Majestic Warrior has raced twice this year with one victory.

Hot Shot Kid’s last performance was a win in the June 17 10,000 Lakes Stakes (Black Type) at Canterbury Park. Prior to that performance, he took 10th in an April 24 allowance optional claiming at Oaklawn Park and first in the Sept. 13 Tom Metzen H. B. P. A. Sprint Stakes (Black Type) back at Canterbury.

Hot Shot Kid will break from post 3 under jockey Francisco Arrieta.

The biggest challenge to the favorite will likely come in the form of Mr Jagermeister at 3/1.

Trained by Valorie Lund and owned by Kristin Boice, Leslie Cummings, and Valorie, the 5-year-old son of Atta Boy Roy has a record of 11-5-2 from 24 career starts and earnings of $588,627.

His last race was a second-place effort in the June 17 10,000 Lakes Stakes (Black Type) at Canterbury Park. Before that, he finished ninth in the April 18 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (G3) at Oaklawn.

Mr Jagermeister will break from post 5 under Leandro Goncalves.

Twoko Bay

Another runner to keep an eye on is Winchester Place Thoroughbreds Twoko Bay.

Trained by Tony Rengstorf, the 5-year-old gelding son of Neko Bay has a record of 3-2-2 from 13 career starts and earnings of $97,500.

He finished second in a June 10 allowance optional claiming at Canterbury. He also took second in another allowance optional claiming on Aug. 30 and the Blair’s Cove Stakes (Black Type) on Oct. 10, both at Canterbury.

Twoko Bay will break from post 10 under Jareth Loveberry.

The rest of the field (post, morning line) includes: Cinco Star (post 1, 20/1); A P Is Loose (post 2, 9/2); Fireman Oscar (post 4, 12/1); Mister Banjoman (post 6, 12/1); Drop of Golden Sun (post 8, 15/1); and Where’s Jordan (post 9, 20/1).
