The Grade II, $200,000 Twilight Derby will run as Race 9 on the Oct. 18 card at Santa Anita.

The event for 3-year-olds will cover 1 1/8 miles on turf and include names like Smooth Like Straight and Field Pass among the field of nine.

Here is a look at the top runners set for the Twilight Derby.

Smooth Like Straight, Field Pass

One of the top names among the field is Cannon Thoroughbreds’ Smooth Like Straight. The Midnight Lute colt is trained by Michael McCarthy.

He has a career record of 4-1-1 from nine starts and earnings of $277,823. In 2020, he has two wins and one second from four outings.

Last time out, the colt finished fourth in the Sept. 5 American Turf Stakes presented by Smithfield (G2). He also scored the Aug. 9 La Jolla Handicap (G3) at Del Mar, where he registered a 107 Speed Figure, and won the May 23 War Chant Stakes (Black Type) at Churchill Downs.

Smooth Like Straight will break from post 6 under jockey Umberto Rispoli.

Also coming into the race is Three Diamonds Farm’s Field Pass. The son of Lemon Drop Kid is trained by Michael Maker.

He is 5-2-2 from 13 career starts and has earnings of $472,610. In 2020, he has four wins and two thirds from seven outings.

His most-recent performance was a third-place finish in the Sept. 5 American Turf S. presented by Smithfield (G2) at Churchill Downs. His victories include the July 12 Kentucky Utilities Transylvania Stakes (G3) at Keeneland, the June 20 Audubon Stakes (Black Type) at Churchill Downs, and the March 14 Jeff Ruby Stakes (G3) at Turfway Park.

Field Pass will break from the outside post 9 under Drayden Van Dyke.

Farmington Road

Another name to look out for is Farmington Road, owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Chrysalis Stables, and Robert LaPenta. The son of Quality Road is trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher.

He has a career record of 2-2-0 from eight starts and earnings of $155,200. In 2020, he has two wins and one second from six outings.

The colt finished first in a July 29 allowance race last time out at Colonial Downs, which followed an eighth-place run in the June 20 Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G1) at Belmont Park.

Farmington Road will break from post 1 under Flavien Prat.

The rest of the field (post, jockey) is set to include: Express Train (post 2, M E Smith), Margot’s Boy (post 3, T J Prereira), Kiss Today Goodbye (post 4, V Espinoza), Dominant Soul (post 5, E A Maldonado), Scarto (post 7, J J Hernandez), and K P All Systems Go (post 8, A Cedillo).
