The $30,000 Wildcat Handicap is the eighth race on the Turf Paradise card on Friday in Phoenix, Arizona. The one and three eighth miles race will be contested over the 7/8th mile turf track. It is open to horses three years old and up with a field of eight entries.
Betting Preview: Mr Right Now
One of the two youngsters in the field, the four-year-old colt, comes into the Wildcat Handicap after two consecutive victories with three wins and a seventh-place finish in 2021. In his last start on March 2nd, he won a claiming race at Turf Paradise by three lengths as the third favorite with 4/1 odds.
The colt has a career record of 8: 4-0-0 and earnings of $44,138, with a 2021 record of 4: 3-0-0 and winnings of $35,347. He’ll start from the outside eighth post position, ridden by Leslie Mawing for owner/trainer Ryan Bratcher.
Betting Preview: Popular Kid
The seven-year-old gelding is the most experienced entrant in the Wildcat Handicap, with 54 career starts and a record of 54: 11-7-5. He’s coming off a third-place finish in the Cotton Fitzsimmons Mile Handicap as the next to longest shot with 20/1 odds, winning $7,275.
His career earnings of $432,586 for the Shawn H. Davis trained gelding are by far the most of any horse in the field. He’ll be starting from the seventh post position under jockey Alfredo J. Juarez, second in wins and purse winnings in the current Turf Paradise meet.
Betting Preview: We’re Just Sayin
We’re Just Sayin is another seven-year-old gelding with far less race experience, but he’s had an active 5: 1-2-1 record in 2021. His last start was a Turf Paradise win on the grass in a one-mile optional claiming race, where he surged from the fifth place down the stretch.
We’re Just Sayin has career earnings of $92,590, with $13,771 of that coming in the current calendar year. He’s trained by J.Q. Guiterrez and jockey Luis A. Valenzuela will guide him from the fourth post position.
Betting Preview: Jacks Outlaw
The other four-year-old colt in the field has a career record of 12: 3-2-3 and earnings of $40,490. Jacks Outlaw’s last race was a one-mile allowance claiming race at Turf Paradise on March 5th when he went off as the favorite but had to battle from the back of the field to win by half a length.
Jacks Outlaw has shown steady improvement since October and has a great chance to be in the mix on Friday. Instead of regular jockey Leslie Mawing, he’ll have Luis A. Fuentes, who is third in wins and earnings at the track, onboard when he starts from the second post position.
Betting Preview: Noble Pursuit
For a six-year-old gelding, Noble Pursuit has been relatively lightly raced with a record of 8: 3-2-0, with those wins coming in his last three starts, all in 2021. His career earnings are $48,343, but his biggest claim to fame is that he was sired by the two-time horse of the year, Curlin. Starting from the third post position, he’ll be ridden by jockey Karlo Lopez.
Most Determined will start from the inside position, Florista from number 5, and Mas At Money from the sixth post position.
Free Betting Pick
The momentum that Noble Pursuit has generated makes him a great pick for the Wildcat Handicap. The change in jockey for Jacks Outlaw is cause for concern, so the Curlin offspring should deliver his fourth win in a row.
