Aqueduct, Gulfstream & Oaklawn Graded Stakes Picks & Best Bet Selections – February 28, 2028
Aqueduct Race 10 Gotham Stakes Grade 3
2 Hammond was last seen finishing third in the 7-furlong Swale Stakes down in South Florida at 23-1. Colt’s speed figures have been ascending in each consecutive start. He’s a closer in race full of speed and sports the highest late pace numbers of his rivals in here. Colt should relish this one turn mile. Win Contender
5 Right to Party exits from a maiden breaking score when stretching out to a mile. Colt is out of Constitution whose siblings tend to move forward at a quick rate. I expect this Kenny McPeek trainee to outrun his 8-1 morning line odds today. Win Contender
6 Iron Honor turned heads on debut with a near triple digit dirt speed figure, an impressive number especially for a two year old at the time. My concern is Jockey Manny Franco needs to be careful not to engage in a speed duel early as there are many who like to be forwardly placed. This talented son of Nyquist might prove me wrong and thwart the early challenge and go on to the victory. Major Player
Selections 2-5-6-1
Gulfstream Park Race 12 Honey Fox Stakes Grade 3
6 Movin’ On Up ran a game third beaten by just a length in the G2 Pegasus World Cup Turf. I believe this Mare could have won that day but her Jockey made a premature move and was caught at the wire. I love that this gal shortens up off that effort and gets a Jockey upgrade to Luis Seaz. Win Contender
9 Lush Lips is the most accomplished runners in here having a Grade 1 score on her resume. My only concern is the 3 month layoff. She might not be fully 100% as she probably has bigger fish to fry down the road. Let’s try to beat the big favorite today. Win Contender
3 Classic Q didn’t get best of trips last out in the Pegasus World Turf Cup and finished a badly beaten 12th. This Mark Casse trainee is better than that recent effort and should be part of the mix at the wire. Don’t Ignore
Selections 6-9-3-10
Gulfstream Park Race 13 Mac Diarmida Stakes Grade 2
6 Anegada has won 3 of his 4 races with only loss coming in the Grade 3 Commonwealth at Churchill. Gelding finished a fast closing 4th beaten by just a length and a half. This is step up in class and this Mike Maker Trainee will need a stellar effort to beat this field. I feell he might just be up to the task. Win Contender
5 Grand Sonata is an hard trying but inconsistent son of Medaglia d’Oro. On his best day he can win a race like this. He finished second in this race last year and does like the Gulfstream green. It’s been awhile since this wily veteran has seen the winners circle but she has a good shot here to get back to her winning ways. Win Contender
3 Laybout has been a win machine here at Gulfstream, winning 4 of 5 starts with a placing. Gelding scored his first Graded Stakes victory last month when taking the WL McKnight Stakes in front running fashion. He doesn’t need to be on the lead as he’s come from off the pace in prior races. Major Threat
Selections 6-5-3-7
Gulfstream Park Race 14 Fountain of Youth Stakes Grade 2
4 Commandment exits from a near 7-length victory in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes over this main track here at Gulfstream. Colt ran a 96 Bris number with plenty left in the tank. This ones gallop out that day appeared he could have went around the track again. I love this Brad Cox trainee. He likely runs them down late in the stretch run. Top Pick
10 Solitude Dude is an unbeaten son of up and coming Sire Yaupon. Colt has reeled off 3 straight wins to start his career, all while sprinting. Colt faces the acid test today as he stretches out to a mile and a sixteenth. I don’t like the 10 post as there’s a short distance into the first turn but I trust Jockey Flavien Prat to get a good position early. Hopefully Prat can reign this speedball in after the first turn and track just off the pace. If he can do just that, I dig this ones chances. Win Contender
6 Chief Wallabee only only has 1 race on his resume but impressed on debut. Colt won on debut with a 96 Bris number and 100 late pace figure. He’s by Constitution, who like I said before, his youngsters tend to move forward at a quick rate. Don’t Ignore
Selections 4-10-6-5
Oaklawn Park Race 10 Razorback Handicap Grade 3
1 Tap Into This took 6 starts to finally breaking Maiden then won 2 of his next 3 races, including a length victoryina local Restricted Stakes race here at Oaklawn. This Tapit Colt has nice late turn of foot and should geta sweet fast early pace upfront to set up his potent late kick. Top Value Play of the Day
5 Magnitude is a multiple Grade 2 Stakes winner who appears to be the class of the field. Colt hasn’t seen race day in over 3 months but has been training forwardly since. Win Contender
4 Nu What’s New must be considered after winning his last 2 races by a combined 20 lengths. If they let this son Munnings get a comfortable lead early, it could be lights out for the rest of the field. Major Threat
