Saratoga & Del Mar Horse Racing Picks: P.G. Johnson, Seeking the Ante & Generous Portion Stakes – September 4, 2026

Stogie
Stogie
Stogie is a seasoned horse racing bettor with over two decades of trackside experience and a knack for spotting winners before the odds even shift. Born into a family that spent more weekends at the paddock than the park, Stogie’s love for the sport runs deeper than most—rooted in the dirt, sweat, and thunder of hooves at full gallop. He’s not your average tipster. Stogie blends old-school instinct with data-driven insights, studying race forms like sacred texts and following stables and jockeys the way others track stock tickers. His bets aren’t guesses—they’re calculated plays grounded in real-world edge and gut feel honed from thousands of hours at tracks from Saratoga to Santa Anita. Beyond the numbers, Stogie’s got stories. Wins that felt like miracles. Losses that taught hard lessons. And a lifetime of wisdom tucked behind that ever-present cigar. When he’s not at the track, he’s writing sharp, honest content that cuts through the noise and gives readers what they actually need: real advice from someone who lives and breathes the game. Whether you’re a weekend punter or a full-time bettor, Stogie’s voice is one you’ll trust, not just for the picks—but for the perspective.

Saratoga Race 4 P.G. Johnson Stakes

1 Pros and Cons ran a strong second on debut while sprinting at 5- furlongs on the turf down in South Florida. The young Filly then followed up with a maiden breaking score at a mile on the blades here at the Spa. This daughter of Justify showed her versatility in just two lifetime starts by racing well going short and then winning at two turns. She’ll relish the added sixteenth today. Top Pick

3 Up Before the Dawn broke maiden on debut at Ellis Park while competing at a mile on the turf. This Kelsey Danner trainee was able to close into a tepid pace upfront and drew off for a near 2-length victory with a strong gallop out. Flavien Prat who has been on fire here at the Spa, gets the mount. Win Contender

4 Boomesherang won on debut over a All-Weather surface while sprinting and has since been transferred to the George Weaver barn. She’s looked excellent working over Saratoga’s Turf training track and makes a sneaky longshot pick here. Don’t Ignore

Selections 1-3-4-5

Saratoga Race 7 Seeking the Ante Stakes

5 Velora is a 300k purchase and a daughter of up and coming Sire Yaupon whose siblings tend to move forward rather quickly.  She won on a debut here at Saratoga  by nearly 5-lengths with plenty left in the tank. I expect a strong move forward off the Maiden win. Top Pick

6 B Yutiful Carly outran here 35-1 odds on debut while crossing the finishing line first by 3-lengths. This Filly has a sharp work tab since and must be considered.  Win Contender

2 Prime Aurora drops in class and the blinkers come off after an even 5th versus much better than these. Filly fits well here. Major Threat

Selections 5-6-2-4

Del Mar Race 6 Generous Portion Stakes

4 Sentient Soon has sharp early foot and could be a player in here at a price. This Filly faded in her stretch run while stepping up in class last out. I’m going forgive that effort as she had some equipment issues. She now makes her second start off the layoff and gets much needed equipment change. Live Longshot

7 Daytona Diamond was alittle green in the gate on debut but once the gates opened, this Carla Gaines trainee looked mighty professional. She made a 3 wide move at the top of the stretch and dominated by over 5-lengths. Win Contender

6 Breakaway Babe chased a reasonably fast pace on debut and fought on gamely for a 2 and a half length maiden breaking victory. At 15-1 on the morning line, I believe this gutsy daughter of Jack Milton can outrun her odds today. Live Longshot

Selections 4-7-6-2
