Stogies Horse Racing

Del Mar Race 6 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint

  • 8 Ecoro Sieg Japanese invader just broke a 23-year-old record for 1,200 meters (5.97 Furlongs) on the turf when winning the Canna Stakes in 1:07.1, what makes this effort so impressive, is that he missed the break. I believe this son of Twirling Candy is going to run this group off their feet today. Top Choice
  • 7 Whistlejacket is a Group 1 winner at this distance who has never finished out of the superfecta in 7 Career starts while sporting 3 trips to the winner’s circle. Colt enters here with the stellar Jockey/Trainer combo of Ryan Moore/ Aidan O’Brien. Win Contender
  • 2 Aesterius enters here in fine form, winning back-to-back races, including a Group 2 victory overseas. He now drops 7 lbs off that race. Major Threat

Selections 8-7-2-4

Del Mar Race 7 Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies

  • 7 Non-Compliant is a Bob Baffert trainee who is unbeaten in two career starts. Filly was last seen winning the Grade 2 Oak Leaf at Santa Anita while routing for the first time. Gal finished that race with a strong gallop out and should once again relish the mile and sixteenth distance today. Win Contender
  • 10 Scottish Lassie was an impressive 9-length winner of the Grade 1 Frizette at the Big A in just her second career start. Frizette winners have done extremely well in this race in the past and if this young Filly can repeat that effort, she’ll have something to say at the wire. Win Contender
  • 9 American Bikini routes for the first time today for her Japanese connections. She enters here off two consecutive wins in Japan. Major Threat

Selections 7-10-9-3-1

Del Mar Race 8 Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf

  • 6 Virgin Colada has been compromised by pedestrian early paces in all 3 Career starts, but this Filly still has been able to win with placings. I expect a much faster early pace which should suit this gal fine. She shows the best late-pace speed figures of this group and with turf superstar Jockey Flavien Prat in the irons, I believe this 20-1 morning line longshot has a good chance to score the upset here. Live Longshot
  • 1 Lake Victoria enters here unbeaten in 4-lifetime starts which includes 2 Group 1 wins overseas. This daughter of the great Frankel will be ridden by Ryan Moore who sports two wins on this Filly. Win Contender
  • 9 Kilwin is another bomber in here who I believe has a great chance to head to the winner’s circle. She was last seen defeated a full field of 13 in the Untapable Stakes at Kentucky Downs. Filly came home very quickly in the last quarter of a mile of that race, despite some moderate fractions up front. She likely will love the added distance today. Life Longshot
  • 12 May Day Ready is undefeated in 3 career starts but lacks the speed figures to win this race, however, when you start your career unbeaten at three different venues, you have to be respected. Don’t Ignore

Selections 6-1-9-12

Del Mar Race 9 Breeders Cup Juvenile

  • 1 East Avenue defeated the odds on favorite to win the Grade 1 Breeders Futurity last out. Colt won that race rather easily while being geared down. I’m not crazy about his post position but I believe this one’s talent can overcome the unlucky draw. Win Contender
  • 7 Gaming exits from a strong win in the G1 Del Mar Futurity over this main track here at Del Mar. Colt ran a near triple-digit number that day, he’s a perfect 2-2 here at Del Mar and is juicy 8-1 on the morning line. I love this Bob Baffert trainee’s chances today. Win Contender
  • 10 Chancer McPatrick has a nice late turn of foot and if they go hot early, this closer will be motoring late. Del Mar’s main track typically doesn’t bode well for deep closers, but this guy has yet to run a bad race. Major Threat

Selections 1-7-10-5

Del Mar Race 10 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf

  • 4 Al Qudra English-based shipper recently finished a strong second I in the G1 Summer Stakes at Woodbine. Colt didn’t get the best of trips that day and still finished well. A cleaner trip today just might get the job done. Win Contender
  • 5 Zulu Kingdom has started his career with 3 consecutive victories, including the G2 Pilgrim recently. This Irish-Bred has won at three different venues and has victories on soft, yielding, and fast turf surfaces. Don’t leave this versatile runner off your tickets. Win Contender
  • 11 New Century enters here in excellent form, winning back-to-back races. He comes out of G1 to win when taking the Summer Stakes north of the border. Major Threat
