Stogies Horse Racing

Aqueduct Race 2

  • 4 Classic Catch makes his second start off the layoff for trainer Todd Pletcher today. I believe the pace will be hot early, with at least 3 want-the-lead types vying for the front end. This son of Classic Empire hasn’t seen the winner’s circle in a long time but this race sets up perfectly for his running style. I think he’ll be overlooked at windows today. Win Contender
  • 2 Masmak is another in here who would benefit from a hot early pace. Colt was last seen dominating a bit softer over this main track here at the Big A. He’s been no worse than second in 4 starts here at Aqueduct while sporting 3 trips to the winner’s circle. Win Contender
  • 6 Mama’s Gold is a 4-time winner in six starts at this distance. If somehow this 5-year-old can get an uncontested lead and slow down the pace a bit, he can go gate-to-wire. However, I’m just not too confident he gets an easy lead in here. Major Player

Selections 4-2-6-1

Aqueduct Race 7

  • 5 Skylander had reeled off 3 straight victories before coming up empty versus Allowance Optional 62.5 foes last out. Gelding didn’t get the best of trips that day in the 7 furlong event. He fits well here with the drop-in class. Win Contender
  • 6 Runnin Ray had been ascending the class ladder with back-to-back victories until he finished 6th last start while facing tougher competition. He’s another who fits well here with the drop-in class. Win Contender
  • 7 Margin of Air pressed a fast pace in the most recent start and tired badly finishing a disappointing 7th. This Maryland-based runner likely will change running tactics today, as he is a proven stalker type. Live Longshot

Selections 5-6-7-8

Oaklawn Park Race 9

  • 4 Normandy Queen is a lightly raced Filly by upcoming Sire Omaha Beach. I’m going to forgive this one’s sixth-place finish last out, as she was making her first start off an extended layoff. That race on the turf at Santa Anita was more like a glorified workout. Gal now runs second of the layoff and returns to the dirt where she won consecutive races while routing. I love her chances here at a price. Live Longshot
  • 6 Absinthe is a lightly raced 5-year-old Mare by Gun Runner who has been dealing with health issues throughout her career. However, when this gal makes it to the starting gate she runs well. She’s never finished out of the Superfecta in 6-lifetime starts while winning two. Win Contender
  • 3 Miss Hebrides enters here in fine form and a 1/74 bullet. Major Threat
